摘要: A blood pump is implantable within the vasculature, such as within the pulmonary artery. The pump may project through a native valve such as the pulmonary valve. In use, the pump opposes retrograde flow and thus acts as a replacement for the native valve. The pump may be an axial flow pump having a generally tubular housing adapted to fit within the space proximal to the bifurcation of the pulmonary artery while projecting only slightly proximally of the annulus of the native pulmonary valve.

摘要: A bloop pump system for use in CPB and other heart surgeries includes a magnetic cable drive (28) for remotely driving the blood pump. The magnetic cable drive is configured with magnetic couplings on each end (22, 24) such that the same motor (12) can be used to drive the pump (10) whether the pump is positioned directly on the motor or connected to the motor by the cable drive. This system allows the blood pump to be positioned within the sterile surgical field which advantageously reduces the priming volume of the pump.

摘要: A centrifugal pump for left ventricle assist includes an impeller chamber (52) with inlet (50) and outlet passages and enclosing an impeller (54) rotatable to move blood through the impeller chamber, and a rotor chamber (38) enclosing a rotor (40) integral with the impeller and rotatable to drive the impeller. An elastically deformable seal member (62) separates the rotor and impeller chambers, and includes an annular lip seal (66) surrounding a shaft (56) which joins the impeller and rotor. A saline solution is supplied at a constant fluid flow rate to the rotor chamber through an inlet passage (36), and leaves the rotor chamber by perfusing into the impeller chamber along the interface between the shaft (56) and lip seal. The lip seal is configured to encourage flow of saline solution along the lip seal/impeller shaft interface, while resisting blood flow along the interface.

摘要: Blood pump devices having improved rotor design are provided herein. Such blood pump devices include rotors having cantilevered support through a sealed mechanical bearing disposed outside a blood flow path of the device so as to avoid thrombus formation caused by blood contact with the bearing. The bearing means can be rotatably coupled with a proximal portion of the rotor shaft extending outside the fluid path, while a stator drives rotation of the rotor shaft so that one or more rotor blades on a distal portion of the rotor force blood flow through the device. The bearing means may include one or more radial bearings on a proximal portion of the rotor shaft that are isolated from the blood flow path by one or more rotary seals.

The female connector (20) includes a structure (61) defining a bore (62) extending along an axis (B-B) between a proximal end (66) and a distal end (64), at least one bore contact (70) mounted to the structure (61) and exposed within the bore (62) and a catch element (91) mounted to the structure (61). The catch (91) and retaining elements (96) allow the shaft (22) to be inserted into the bore (62) to align the contacts (30, 70). A locking element (110) rotatably locks the shaft (22) in the bore (62). A method of implanting the system (10) is also provided.
