Abstract:
The invention features a device (100) for extracting organic compounds from a sample, coupled with a receptacle (1) containing a solvent and subjected to microwave heating. An elongated means bears at one end engaged in the receptacle (1) a cartridge (120) containing the sample to be treated, a cylindrical wall (130) encloses the said elongated means that emerges from the receptacle (1) such that a ring-shaped steam passage (131) is defined between them, and opens in sealed manner into the receptacle (1). A solvent reservoir (140) comprises an upper aperture (141) for fitting a refrigerating system or a closed hood. A connecting conduit (150) extends from the reservoir (140) along an inclined direction (Y), towards the said means into the ring-shaped steam passage (131) and comes in contact with the said means.

Abstract:
This invention refers to a process for extraction of active biological compounds from plants by simultaneous application of ultrasounds and microwaves in a laminar continuous flow regime of extraction, under conditions of a controlled flow regime, at temperatures which do not affect the structure of thermolabile active biological compounds and to a new type of chemical reactor for extraction of active biological compounds from plants, continuous, for carrying out this process. Also, the invention refers to an installation for continuous extraction of active biological compounds with the new type of chemical reactor for extraction. By the application of the process according to the invention there are obtained essential oils, fatty oils, blends of polyphenols, blends of anthocyanins, terpenes, sesquiterpenes compounds, stabilized proteins or in pure form which cannot be obtained by others techniques of extraction due to thermal degradation and/or structural degradation occurring during the process of extraction.
Abstract:
A process for fractionating a plant material to provide isolated extractives, the process includes pretreating the plant material to provide a fluidized plant material, subjecting the pretreated fluidized plant material to high frequency pulses and shear forces without denaturing bioactive aspects of one or more components of the plant material to provide a first liquid fraction having extractives to be isolated and a first fractionated plant material, separating the first liquid fraction having extractives from the first fractionated plant material, and isolating extractives from the first liquid fraction.

Abstract:
Disclosed herein are embodiments of an essential oil extraction apparatus. In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises a container configured to hold an essential oil-containing material, an essential oil extract receiver contained in the container, a condenser having an outlet fluidly coupled to the receiver and located relative to the container so as to receive essential oil-containing vapor emitted by the essential oil-containing material; and at least one microwave reflection structure associated with at least one of the container, the receiver or the condenser. The apparatus can have an overall dimension that is sufficiently small so that the apparatus fits inside a standard-sized kitchen microwave oven.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a new method of extraction of solid compounds by microwaves and to the apparatus used in said method, a. Placing the solid material (2) to be extracted and a solvent in a base vessel (1), said solid material being placed on a support (3) placed at a defined distance above the bottom of said vessel, said solvent being, when starting the method, in, a quantity sufficient to immerse the solid material (4a), b. Subjecting said base vessel (1), provided with a polytetrafluoroethylene/graphite compound in the form of a stir bar and/or particles, to microwave irradiation, the microwave irradiation being the only heating source and causing at least partial evaporation of the solvent, c. Removing said evaporated solvent such that the solvent in the base vessel no longer immerses said support and solid material (4b), d. Collecting extracts of the solid material directly from the bottom of the base vessel.
