More efficient collectors for recovering selected metal values and/or minerals using flotation processes are described in which the improved collectors are combinations of different reagents in which the different reagents are selected from combinations of thionocarbamates, dithiophosphates and mercaptobenzothiazoles in which the collectors are mixtures of reagents selected either containing members from the one group of reagents or from one or more other groups of reagents. Particularly preferred reagents forming the collectors are isopropylmethylthionocarbamate, isopropylethylthionocarbamate or isobutylethylthionocarbamate. Particularly preferred dithiophosphates are potassium di-isobutyl dithiophosphate and potassium di-secbutyl dithiophosphate. The collectors can be used to recover a range of metals and minerals, particularly gold, silver, zinc, lead, nickel, platinum from a range of raw materials including suphides and sulphidic ores, oxides, oxidized sulphides and similar. The collectors are used in flotation processes to increase the amount of recovery of the selected metal or mineral whilst reducing the amount of competing metals or minerals being recovered. An advantage of some members of the collectors is that they do not phase separate but rather can be used in combination without the need for stirring or agitation shortly before use.

The present invention relates to improved process for beneficiating an ore-containing sulfide material. In particular, the process is useful for beneficiating ores and recovering metals such as gold, copper, lead, molybdenum, zinc, etc., from the ores. In one embodiment, the process comprises the steps of: (1) forming a slurry comprising at least one crushed mineral-containing ore, water and a collector which is a mixture of (A) at least one metal salt of a phosphorus acid represented by formula (I), wherein each R1 is independently a hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyloxy or hydrocarbylthio group having from 1 to about 18 carbon atoms, each X is independently oxygen or sulfur, and the lowest oxidation state of the metal is plus two, and (B) at least one thio compound comprising (i) at least one dithiocarbamate represented by formula (II), wherein each R2 is independently hydrogen, a hydrocarbyl group having from 1 to about 18 carbon atoms, or R2 taken together with R3 and the nitrogen atom form a five, six or seven member heterocyclic group; each R3 is independently a hydrocarbyl group having from 1 to about 18 carbon atoms, or R3 taken together with R2 and the nitrogen atom form a five, six or seven member heterocyclic group; and R4 is a hydrocarbylene group having from 1 to about 10 carbon atoms, (ii) at least one thionocarbamate represented by formula (III) wherein R5 and R6 are hydrocarbyl groups having from 1 to about 18 carbon atoms or mixtures of (i) and (ii); (2) subjecting the slurry from step (1) to froth flotation to produce a froth; and (3) recovering a mineral from the froth.

This invention relates to a process for recovering valuable metals from ore with significantly reduced water consumption through the discrete treatment and storage of coarse tailings. Ore is ground to produce a coarse particulate ore. The coarse particulate ore is treated in a coarse flotation stage to produce a low grade concentrate fraction and a coarse tailings fraction. The low grade concentrate fraction is treated to produce fine tailings and a saleable concentrate. The coarse tailings are treated separately from the fine tailings and water is recovered from the coarse tailings by hydraulically stacking; filtering or screening, whereafter the coarse tailings are dry stacked, without being recombined with the fine tailings.
