Abstract:
A method of defining a pattern of coating fluid on a surface includes introducing coating fluid into a nip defined between a surface of a first roll and a surface of second roll. The roll surfaces are urged together at the nip under a nip pressure and move in opposite directions toward the coating fluid in the nip. The amount of coating fluid metered onto the second roll surface after the nip is a function the topography of the first roll surface and the nip pressure. The first roll surface is conformable and the first and second roll surfaces are urged together. Selected portions of the second roll surface are engaged with a doctor blade to remove coating fluid therefrom, wherein a pattern of coating fluid remains on the second roll surface which is defined by at least one stripe of coating fluid. The pattern of coating fluid is transferred from the second roll surface to a moving web by a reverse kiss coating.
Abstract:
An apparatus (10) for coating an article (14) where the apparatus includes an applicator (18), a conveyor (26) for sequentially transporting a plurality of articles to the roller (18) and a metering bar positioned against the applicator to meter a predetermined amount of coating composition to the applicator for transfer to an article transported to said applicator by the conveyor.
Abstract:
Coating blade for applying coating material onto a travelling web (41), particularly coating liquid onto a travelling paper web, comprising a steel band (3), which, along the edge section (7) intended to engage the web (41), is provided with a wear-resistant coating (5). Said coating is constituted by a material which has a hardness according to Shore A of from about 10 to about 100.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Electrode mixture paste (5) is applied to the opposite surfaces of a strip-form core material (1) of punched metal thin sheet while the core material is allowed to travel in its longitudinal direction, the paste (5)-applied opposite surfaces of the core material (1) are pressed alternately at least one time by pressing rollers (15a, 15b) one surface at a time, then the paste (5)-applied core material (1) is passed between a pair of scraping jigs (16a, 16b) having comb-tooth-shaped projections (17a or 17a, 17b) used to regulate the position of the core material (1) to thereby regulate the coating thickness of the paste (5), whereby it is possible to accurately regulate the coating thickness even when the intervals between the projections (17a, 17b) are made wide enough to permit the welded portions of the core material (1) to pass. Accordingly, an electrode mixture paste applying method is realized that can avoid a production trouble to be caused by the bite-in of welded portions even when a core material is continuously produced while being welded with a coating thickness regulated accurately.

Abstract:
Abstract:
A coating blade for the application of coating color onto a travelling web, the blade having an edge section with a profile conformed to the surface of the web when in engagement therewith. The coating blade is characterized by a sacrificial layer covering at least the edge section and protecting the underlying edge section during the web loading phase. The invention also relates to a method of preparing a coating blade by applying a film forming solution onto an edge section of the blade, and allowing the solution to dry so as to form a solid film.
Abstract:
A self-adjusting blade for engagement with a moving work surface, comprising a steel strip elongated in a first direction between first and second sides, said strip having an edge section along said first side for contact with said work surface, and said edge section being hardened to a hardness exceeding that of the remaining part of said strip. The self-adjusting blade is provided with a coating of a low wear resistencial material covering substantially all of said edge section at least on the part thereof contacting the work surface.
