The present disclosure is in the technical field of dent detection in canisters. Accurate and consistent detection of dents in canisters has been a problem in the industry for some time. The present disclosure describes an apparatus and method that addresses this technical problem in a repeatable and easily implemented manner. There is provided a dent detection apparatus including a conduit dimensioned to be the maximum allowable diameter of a canister, a transportation portion for transporting a canister through the conduit and a rotation portion for rotating the canister as it passes through the conduit. A sensor detects when a canister stops rotating and gets stuck in the conduit and alerts the user. Thus faulty canisters can be detected and removed from production.

Disclosed is a device for inspecting thermoplastic blanks. The blanks are transported along a conveying element with a view to being blown to containers in a blowing rail area. They resemble tubes with a closed bottom and a mouth portion. The mouth section delimits the mouth opening of the blank. An axis of rotation for a detector wheel is mounted crosswise to the blank conveying system. The detector wheel bears detector heads with rounded contours, which are distributed star-like on lugs radially oriented outwards. The detector heads have dimensions which are adapted to the mouth diameter of the blanks. At least one segment of the conveying element is mounted with a varying position in the vicinity of the detector wheel. When positioned for inspection, the axis of rotation of the detector wheel is at such a distance to the conveying element that, when the detector wheel rotates, the detector heads can be introduced, at least partly, into the mouth section. Said segment of the conveying element is connected to a control element which, upon detection of the detector head being wrongly introduced into the mouth section of the blank, causes the segment position to vary, the blank being taken away from the area of the conveying element.
