The inventive forming roll is used for producing working rolls for finishers of a rod mill and small-section mill. Said roll comprises a shaft having a conical mounting surface and a milling disk made of a wear-resistant material mounted thereon, and a liner arranged between the disk and the shaft with a conical mounting surface. The invention is characterized by the fact that the liner is slotted along the axis thereof into n equal parts over a distance equal to the length of the contacting part, n being an integral number. The width of a slot ranges from 0.2 to 0.5 mm.

Um eine Verkürzung von unerwünschten Abmaßlängen zu erreichen, sieht das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren vor, dass der Bandkopf (210) des Metallbandes (200) bereits bei dem ersten aktiven Walzgerüst (n) der Walzstraße eine Dickenreduktion erfährt und dann zu dem nachfolgenden Walzgerüst weitertransportiert wird, um dort eine weitere Dickenreduktion zu erfahren. Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren sieht weiterhin vor, die Anstechdicke an dem n'ten Walzgerüst weiter zu reduzieren nach Maßgabe der zwischenzeitlich aufgebauten Zugspannung zwischen dem n+1'ten und dem n'ten Walzgerüst.
