Accessories for an angle grinder include a disposable rotary sanding disk having quite large shaped ventilating/viewing apertures, for use with a resilient backing plate also having shaped ventilating apertures. The apertures of one or both parts are shaped so that snagging of the apertures on projections from the work surface is minimized and to facilitate air flow across the work surface during use. This air flow helps in cooling the work and ejecting detritus, so minimising clogging effects. The ventilating apertures also facilitate viewing the work to be sanded through the spinning disk during the abrasion process, so that operator feedback is immediate. The holes also give the sanding disk more resilience so that a greater area comes in contact with the work and the disk wears more evenly over its abrasive surface.

There is disclosed a sanding-plate part (4) for mounting on a tool with a number of suction openings (2), typically at least six, for removal of sanding dust, where a metal plate (5) is coated on its front side (3) with a sanding material in the form of grains of hard metal, and on the rear side there is secured a light support plate (6), e.g. of aluminium or fibre-reinforced plastic. On the support plate (6) there are mounted at least two securing elements (7) which extend into the suction openings (2) in the tool, where these openings (2) are substantially cylindrical holes, and the securing elements (7) enter into engagement with the inner walls of the holes (2), so that at least some of the transverse forces from the sanding surface (3) and the reciprocating movement of the sanding-plate part (4) are transferred to the tool's sanding-plate support part (1) in which the suction openings (2) are provided.
