The curvature of the top surface (30) is selected such that the board (22) retains a convex top surface (30) even after warping during use, and in one construction utilizes a clip (21) system to secure the board (22) to an underlying support (23). The decking board (22) incorporates grooves (34, 35) for cooperation with laterally extending flanges (27, 28) on the clip (21) to secure the board (22) to the clip (21) without requiring the use of separate fasteners extended through the board (22). Fasteners are extended through the clip (21) and into a support member (23) to secure the clip (21) and thus the board (22) to a support member (23). In a preferred form of the invention, the clip (21) has a pair of upstanding hook-like projections (27, 28) which engage in a pair of spaced apart grooves (34, 35) in an undersurface of the board (22) to secure the board (22) to a support (23). The curved board (22) of the invention also reduces the amount of waste or rejected material during the manufacturing process because of the elimination of bark edges during the milling process, and the grooves (34, 35) in the bottom surface (33) of one form of the invention serve not only to attach the board (22) to the clip (21) but also function as drying channels for circulation of air when the boards (21) are stacked on top of one another.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung verklebter Holzverbundprodukte (10, 13, 24, 24a, 25a) aus Langholz-Rohholz (1) von im Wesentlichen gleicher Rohholzlänge, wobei die Holzverbundprodukte zu einer frei wählbaren Holzverbundbreite und/oder Holzverbundlänge verbindbar sind, wobei im Wesentlichen jedes Langholz- Rohholz (1) jeweils in Längsrichtung in Langholzteile (2, 20, 21) sowie in äußere Schwartenteile (34) geteilt und nach dem Trocknen und anschließenden Egalisieren eine Profilierung (23) an gegenüberliegenden Seitenflächen (18c, 18d, 37) jedes Langholzteils (2, 20, 21) hergestellt wird. Nach geeignetem Anordnen und Nebeneinanderlegen werden die Langholzteile (2, 20, 21) an den Seitenflächen (18c, 18d, 37) zu einem Holzverbund verklebt, wobei Keilzinkenverbindungen (11a) an Stirnseiten jedes Holzverbunds über dessen gesamte Holzverbundbreite hergestellt werden, und wiederholt stirnseitig Holzverbund an Holzverbund an den jeweiligen Keilzinkenverbindungen miteinander verklebt werden, bis ein Holzverbundprodukt in gewählter Holzverbundlänge erhalten wird. The present invention is a method for manufacturing edge-glued panels or laminated beams, from sawn timber edges with pronounced wane. Logs from small diameter trees have tight and sound knots, and are for this reason suitable for furniture and interior furnishing. However with conventional methods, trees below a certain diameter (less than about 14 cm) cannot be used profitable, for such furniture and interior applications. The method according to this invention makes it feasible to use logs of smaller diameter than is possible with conventional methods. The starting material is sawn timber pieces (2) having edges with pronounced wane. In addition to profiling (f) the waney edges, the pieces are optionally cut (20d) resulting in members (20). These members are seubsequently joined, thus obtaining thick laminated pieces (21) typically in the form of panels. These may be cut into thin panels (22) characterized by surfaces (22s) with a pleasin grain pattern and even distance between the glue lines of the joints.

The invention comprises engineered structural wood products particularly useful in critical applications such as joists, headers, and beams where longer lengths, greater widths, and higher and predictable stress ratings may be required. The invention is also directed to a method for making the wood products. Most logs by nature are radially anisotropic, having wood of higher density and stiffness in their outer portion adjacent the bark than is found in the inner portion. The logs are machined to segregate the denser, stiffer outer wood. A first generally rectangular component (4) is formed from the less dense inner wood. Second generally rectangular components (6) are formed from the stiffer outer wood. Second components are adhesively bonded to at least one edge of the first components, more usually to opposite edges. The stiffer wood is thus specifically placed where it will contribute most effectively to the properties of the product. The product is analogous to an I-beam in which the lower density first component serves as the web and the higher density second component as the flange portion. The products can be handled in use in identical fashion to solid sawn lumber. They are characterized by much less variation in their stiffness than solid sawn visually or machine graded products and can be made in a wide range of width, thickness, and length.

The method of oblong processing of wooden materials is based on the fact that the required number of incisions of required depth is made along the full length of the wooden material, oblongly toward the wooden material at once, and simultaneously this incised layer is cut in the horizontal direction. The equipment consists of four supports placed in a steel frame wherein on the first pair of supports the horizontal saw discs (3) are placed and connected with the driver (1) through the matrix (2). On the second pair of supports the vertical saw discs (5) with determining ringlets (6) are placed and connected with the driver (4). The saw discs (3, 5) are both vertically and horizontally adjustable toward each other and, at the same time, the whole system of saw discs (3, 5) is simultaneously vertically adjustable.

In a sawing machine which is constructed to cut simultaneously from a log or a block (3) at least two mutually adjacent boards (1, 2), a method for separating said boards one from the other and advancing the boards to downstream board-treating equipment, such as an edging mill. The boards are pressed firmly against the log or the block until the boards have been completely cut therefrom. When the boards (1, 2) have been completely cut from the log or block (3), the outermost board (1) is separated from the log or block with the aid of gripping devices (7) which coact with the outermost board in a manner to release the board (2) that lies inwardly thereof. The outermost board is then released from the gripping devices. The invention also relates to an arrangement for carrying out the inventive method.
