Eine Vorrichtung zum Bearbeiten der Stirnseiten von Schnitthölzern weist einen Arbeitstisch (10), auf dem die Schnitthölzer in einer ersten Bewegungsrichtung bis zu einem Anschlag (24) in eine Arbeitsposition gefördert werden, eine Klemmeinrichtung, die die Schnitthölzer in der Arbeitsposition festklemmt, und einen relativ zur Klemmeinrichtung in einer zur ersten Bewegungsrichtung senkrechten zweiten Bewegungsrichtung beweglichen Arbeitskopf zum Bearbeiten einer Stirnseite, auf. A multi-axis machining apparatus (10) including structure for positioning a workpiece in a precise and repeatable manner in relation to a tool bit. The multi-axis machining apparatus (10) includes a main table (12) forming a horizontally disposed upper surface (22) and having an opening (24) for mounting a first tool (26) in an inverted position therein and for projecting a first bit (27) upward through the opening (24) and above the upper surface (22). The horizontal upper surface (22) has coplanar first and second axes intersecting each other in perpendicular relationship and the opening (24) is centered on a vertical third axis, intersecting the first and second axes in perpendicular relationship therewith. A second table assembly (20) is attachable to the underside of the first table (12). A carriage assembly (14) may be operatively engaged to the main table (12) for moving the carriage assembly (14) in a direction parallel to the second axis. A second tool (46) having a second bit (47) oriented in a downward position parallel to the third axis may be mounted to the carriage (16) operatively engaged to said carriage assembly (14).

A router table assembly (10) includes a removable throat plate (12) having a frame (22) with a generally-planar upper surface (24), and an opening (28) formed in the frame's upper surface (24). A disc (36), supported within the opening (28) for rotation about a first axis (38), includes a through-hole (42) which is sized to permit extension therethrough of a routing bit (44) along a second axis (46) parallel to the first axis (38). A graduated scale (50) on the frame (22) adjacent to the disc (36) cooperates with a reference mark (52) on the disc (36) to provide an indication of the displacement of the bit's second axis (46) relative to a reference edge (26) on the router table's working surface (18). A clamp (54) secures the disc (36) against rotation after the disc (36) has been rotated within the frame (22) to position the bit's second axis (46) a desired distance from the reference edge (26). A fence (60) is secured in one of a plurality of parallel-spaced positions relative to the reference edge (26).

A work bench (10) has a stationary planar upper surface (21) and a fence (20) to which a piece of work (161) is clamped. The fence (20) may be moved so that the position of the work piece (161) may be adjusted. Once in the desired position, the work piece remains immovable. A carriage (90) slides beneath the upper surface (21) and a router (91) is mounted on the carriage (90). The router bit (22) extends through an elongated slot (24) in the upper surface (21) and into contact with the immovable work piece (161). As the carriage (90) slides the router cuts the work piece (161). The fence (20) has a base (26) which rotates on top of the upper surface (21) and a bracket (42) slides on rails (44) formed on top of the base. Knobs (41, 58, 59) are provided for tightening the base (26) to the upper surface (21) and the bracket (42) to the base (26) to prevent such rotation and sliding.

A router table comprises a table top, a bit mount, and a drive train. The bit mount is configured to hold a router bit such that the router bit extends from the table top defining a bit axis. The drive train is positioned under the table top and is operably connected between the bit mount and a drive coupling. The drive coupling is configured to engage a driven member, with the drive coupling defining a drive axis that is not coaxial with the bit axis. The driven member may be provided by a drive bit on a portable router secured to the table top. Operation of the portable router results in rotation of the driven member. Rotation of the driven member and associated drive coupling operates the drive train and results in rotation of the bit mount and associated router bit.

Damit die Kehlmaschine und eine Hebevorrichtung (11) für Werkzeuge (3 bis 6) zur Verwendung mit der Kehlmaschine einen einfachen Werkzeugwechsel gewährleisten, ist mindestens einer der Spindeln wenigstens ein Führungselement (19) zugeordnet, das sich mit Abstand parallel zur Spindelachse erstreckt und mit mindestens einem Führungselement (20) einer Hebevorrichtung (11) zusammenwirkt, die eine Aufnahme für das Werkzeug (3 bis 6) aufweist. Das Führungselement (20) der Hebevorrichtung hat von der Achse der Aufnahme den gleichen Abstand wie das kehlmaschinenseitige Führungselement (19) von der Spindelachse. Mit der Hebevorrichtung (11) können Werkzeuge (3 bis 6) einfach und zuverlässig ein- beziehungsweise ausgewechselt werden. Die Kehlmaschine dient insbesondere zur Bearbeitung von Werkstücken (3 bis 6) aus Holz, Kunststoff und dergleichen.
