Abstract:
A covering unit for use in combination with similar units for covering a surface with a natural random look, the unit having an hexagonal body comprising first, second and third pairs of opposed and parallel sides. Each side has a central point of angular symmetry. The second and third pairs are similar to each other while the first pair is different from the others. The sides of the second and third pairs are provided with at least one split deviation along their length arranged so that each side of the second pair is a rotational image of the sides of the third pair, whereby in use in combination with other covering units: each side is matingly engageable with the sides of an equivalent pair of a neighbouring unit; and the unit has a central point of angular symmetry and is matingly engageable with a plurality of neighbouring unit.
Abstract:
A flexible, molded, polymeric grid (30) is embedded in a predominantly concrete mat comprising a concrete slab having relatively thicker portions (24) and relatively thinner portions (22), the thicker portions defining blocks connected by the thinner portions, along which the concrete slab (20) is breakable, and the longitudinally and transversely extending members connecting the blocks to one another when the concrete slab (20) is broken along the thinner portions. The flexible grid has two longitudinal edges, two transverse edges, longitudinally extending members, and transversely extending members. The respective longitudinally and transversely extending members meet at nodes (34), spaced uniformly from one another, both longitudinally and transversely, except that, along the longitudinal and transverse edges, each node is spaced more distantly from the nodes nearest to the node. When the longitudinal and transverse members are disposed without stress in an imaginary plane fingers (38), which are unitary with the grid, extend from the plane.
Abstract:
In the manufacture of an articulated, predominantly concrete mat, which comprises concrete blocks and a flexible geogrid embedded in such blocks and in which the flexible geogrid defines flexible members connecting such blocks to one another, an intermediate article being a concrete slab is cast, in which a flexible geogrid is embedded. The slab has relatively thinner portions, along which the slab is breakable to form such blocks and relatively thicker portions, which become such blocks when the slab is broken along the relatively thinner portions Preferably, the relatively thinner portions extend longitudinally and transversely, in a rectangular array, before the slab is broken along the relatively thinner portions.
Abstract:
There is a described a moulded concrete paving slab having a face which is cruciform in shape, and comprises a central region (ABCD) and four rectangular lateral extensions (LAKD, EFAB, BGCH, DCIJ) each of which is bounded on one side by a respective side of the central square region, and a pattern of paviours (5, 6) delineated on the face, wherein at least one of said paviours extends across at least one of the boundaries of the central region. The central region may be square, or may be a rectangle with a pair of longer sides and a pair of shorter sides. The pattern of paviours is irregular. In one embodiment, each lateral extension extends along the full length of a respective side of the central region of the cruciform face. Each lateral extension may be substantially of the same size and shape as the central region. Alternatively, each lateral extension may extend along substantially half of the length of a respective side of the central square region of the cruciform face. The pattern of paviours may extend to the edges of the cruciform face, with the paviours separated by pointing gaps (4) formed by channels, and the slab may further have spacing nibs (9) on its respective edges, wherein the nibs are of a height substantially the same as the width of said pointing gaps.

Abstract:
A paving assembly (1) comprises a plurality of paving elements (2) interconnected by a reinforcing and interconnecting mesh (5) of plastics material. Adjacent paving elements (2) are joined by frangible links (15) which assist in spacing the elements (2) to define interstices (9) to receive bedding sand. The links (15) have fault line (16) along which the links (15) may be broken to accomodate articulation between adjacent paving elements (2), on fitting. A mechanical interlock is formed when the paving is in place and the faces of the link posts (15) re-engage. In some cases a paving assembly (100) may comprise paving elements (101) which do not have a joining mesh.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Dividable slab made up of several sections separated by grooves allowing easy separation of the said sections on site during laying, thereby offering a variety of different sizes to imitate natural stone paving.
Abstract:
A slab, with elements connected by a flexible joint, having an improved resistance to degradation by freezing and thawing, while being adapted to support heavy axial loads coming from the top and that is able to flex under pressure coming from the bottom of the slab. The slab comprises a plurality of interconnected plate-shaped elements laying side by side. Each of the plate-shaped elements have at least one side wall forming a pair of adjacent side walls with a side wall of an adjacent plate-shaped element. The slab also comprises at least one flexible joint, each flexible joint connecting one of the pair of adjacent side walls respectively. The flexible joint comprises an upper section of each of the side walls of the pair, in contact relationship with each other, a bottom section of each of the side walls of the pair, spaced apart from each other, and defining a gap between the side walls of the pair; and a flexible connecting rod extending across the gap and connecting the bottom section of the side walls together. A method for manufacturing such a slab using an upside down molding technique is also disclosed.
