Abstract: A fluid exit portion for a splash-reducing urinal cartridge is presented. The exit portion comprises a splash reducer for causing fluid to exit the cartridge in a splash -reduced manner. The splash reducer is generally in the form of a spout with a tapered exit area for accelerating and directing the fluid. The spout may comprise converting fins to urge fluid to collect in a progressively narrower channel. When, the cartridge is installed into a housing, the splash reducer ensures that fluid exiting the cartridge transitions into the housing with minimal disturbance, substantially parallel to the housing. The splash reducer is formed of a flexible material or is hinged with respect to the cartridge body to allow for easy insertion into a housing.

Abstract: Urinal apparatus (100) for a commode (200) converts the commode into a temporary urinal. Upon first sensor activation by a standing user, a movable jaw (12) moves forward and clamps a flushable funnel (15) against a movable arm (13). Simultaneously, the jaw pushes first switch (30) causing the arm to move forward dispensing and suspending the funnel above the commode bowl (207). The user urinates through the funnel, which channels the urine down into the commode bowl preventing urine spill around the commode. When through urinating, and second sensor activation by the user, the jaw retracts releasing the used funnel into the bowl (207). Simultaneously, the jaw pushes second switch (31) causing the arm to retract into the apparatus leaving the commode to function unimpeded. Flushing drains away the used funnel. Optionally, without the apparatus (100), the user holds the funnel above the bowl (207), urinates through, drops it and flushes. The flushable funnels, have wet strength, water repellency, but degrade.

Abstract: An indicator that the cartridge is draining slowly is placed on top of the cartridge. When slow draining causes urine to pool on top of the cartridge, liquid enters a float housing, causing an indicator to change color. The indicator is visible through a lens in a diverter.
