The structural frame and connection assembly designs allow for easier connection of frame elements in the prefabrication process of the foldable building units and for easier connection of frame elements at the building site, for example, of foldably connected frame elements after unfolding. They also allow for more finish in the prefabrication process, and/or less and faster work at the building site, for example, by enabling conventional structural lumber grids that can be continuous through the edges and corners of the building envelope for conventional exterior finishing, while providing a tight building envelope with reduced heat transfer, particularly, through the edges of the foldable building unit.

The invention concerns a road transportable building structure (10) and to a method of providing a building at a site. The building structure has a primary unit (12) which has a primary floor (18), upright primary end walls (20) at opposite ends of the floor and a side structure (16) at one side of the floor. The structure also includes a secondary unit (14) which has a secondary floor (22), upright secondary end walls (24) at opposite ends of the secondary floor and a secondary side wall (26) extending between the secondary end walls. The secondary unit is connected pivotally to the primary unit for pivotal movement about a first pivot axis (34), between a transportation position in which the secondary unit nests with the primary unit and an operative position in which the secondary floor forms a lateral extension of the primary floor, the secondary end walls form upright extensions of the primary end walls and the secondary side wall extends upright at a side of an extended space formed by the primary and secondary units. A roof structure (78) is configured to cover the extended space. In the preferred embodiment, the side structure of the primary unit is a tertiary unit which is also pivotally mounted to the primary unit and which can be pivoted from a nested transportation position to an operative position in which even further floor space is provided.
