According to the invention teh problem is solved by installing a rotating assembly (3) of limited axial length in the pipe, the assembly having wings supported on a common shaft to extend transversely over the flow and generating a radial motion component in the axial flow as they rotate. In a further development of the invention the wings are formed for progressively accelerating the flow from the upstream end (I) of the assembly towards the downstream end (U) thereof.

An automated trowelling system (10) for providing a smooth, even finish to one or both sides of a wall (12). The present system smooths wet surface materials such as concrete or plaster quickly and consistently with minimum manual intervention. Horizontal brackets (30, 32) on the wall (12) support a horizontally translating column (22) and an associated vertically reciprocating trowel (34). A first motor (28) propels the column (22) and trowel laterally along the wall (12), while a second motor (38) effects vertical motion. A forward scoop (42) removes excess wall finishing material ahead of the reciprocating trowel (34), and a nonreciprocating finish trowel (44) follows the reciprocating trowel (34) to provide enhanced finish to the wall (12). A processing unit enhances the ability of the system to operate with minimum manual intervention. Sensors provide input to the processing unit.

A cornice cement applicator has a reservoir for holding cornice cement and at least one dispensing nozzle for depositing a bead of cornice cement in a desired location along the cornice. As the applicator is passed along the cornice, a piston or other actuator causes ejection of cornice cement from the reservoir out the dispensing nozzle(s). Appropriate nozzle design provides for deposition of a bead of cornice having sufficient cement but without surplus, neatly and at a substantially faster rate than can be achieved by manual trowelling. Such an applicator with two dispensing nozzles spaced apart by about the width of the cornice can simultaneously deposit a bead of cement along both rear edges of the cornice in a single pass, saving time. The reservoir can be rapidly and simply charged by submerging the nozzles in cement and withdrawing the piston to cause intake of cement.

An automatic machine for applying adhesive to planar tile elements comprises a support carriage, an adhesive-containing tank which carries on the lower side thereof an adhesive-dispensing bar facing the top element of said stacked tile elements, a pressure means acting on the adhesive contained in the tank and actuatable by a first electric motor to cause the adhesive contained in said tank to pour out through said dispensing bar, a storage space of said vertically-stacked tile elements, a means controlled by a second electric motor for lifting the stack of tile elements, an alternate displacement system, on a horizontal plane, of said adhesive-dispensing bar controlled by a third electric motor, and a processing unit to control in a coordinated way said first, second and third electric motor in order to determine the application of the desired amount of adhesive to the surface of the top element of said stacked tile elements.
