    Abstract: A locking apparatus includes a lock housing (3) and a dial (2) with a plurality of locking elements (50, 60) disposed so that they are located on a circle periphery. The dial is rotary in the lock housing so as to switch the locking apparatus from a locked to open position. The locking elements are axially adjustable between a starting position and a lower position. The dial is surrounded by a ring provided with arrest devices (39a) facing towards the centre axis of the apparatus. With previously selected locking elements set in lower positions, each one of the actuated locking elements turns to face its recess (53) each towards its arrest device. The recesses are dimensioned such that, when the dial is turned, the arrest devices pass through the recesses and are not prevented by the locking elements. When at least one of the selected locking elements is not moved to the lower position, the arrest device (39a) abuts against the locking element and prevents the dial from being turned.

    Abstract: Various enhancements are provided to a pushbutton lock to enhance its security. One is the provision of button tips that are mounted on the ends of the button assemblies and spring-loaded to protrude from the face of the lock, regardless of whether the underlying button is "in" or "out". By this arrangement, a bystander cannot readily see the button combination by the pattern of depressed buttons. This arrangement also reduces tactile feedback between the underlying button assembly and the externally available button tips, increasing resistance to pick attacks. A further enhancement is the provision of button bars between adjacent pairs of button tips. Whenever any of the button tips is manually depressed, the corresponding button bar is pressed into engagement with, and prevents movement of, a member that must be moved in order to unlock the lock. This arrangement further increases lock security by preventing an attacker from experimentally pressing buttons and judging the tactile effect thereon in attempted unlockings of the lock.

    Abstract: The lock comprises a lock bolt, in particular a latch bolt (17), the actuating mechanism of which can be locked by means of a locking mechanism which comprises one series of pushbuttons (25) on each side of the lock.
