The present invention describes a clamping device and a tensional system wherein the pulley bearing arms, rotational bearing and spring are all merged into a single contiguous element (to be called the Monolithic Flexure) which allows a smaller design envelope while achieving the performance characteristics desired of belt tensioners. The monolithic flexure designed, works as a clamping device on the belt and is used to provide the necessary tensioning force on the belt. The use of this monolithic-flexure based clamping device, as a belt tensioner, is one embodiment of this design. Flexures are elements that incorporate dimensional variation across sections of elastic materials to be relatively compliant in selective degree(s) of freedom, but relatively stiff in the complimentary degree(s) of constraint. Flexure based systems are advantageous in reducing part counts in assemblies by eliminating conventional joints and hence requirement of conventional bearings.

The invention discloses: - a drive belt safety device (20) including a belt retaining portion (22) and a wedging portion (24) operably coupled to the belt retaining portion (22), wherein the wedging portion (24) includes a geometry configured to wedge between a drive belt (16) and a pulley (12, 14); and - a method of securing a drive belt system (10), the drive belt system (10) comprising a pair of pulleys (12, 14) configured to rotate and a drive belt (16) disposed around each of the pulleys (12, 14), the method comprising the steps of placing at least one drive belt safety device (20) adjacent to a pulley (12, 14), and securing a portion of the drive belt (16) to the at least one drive belt safety device (20).

Eine Vakuumpumpe, bei der es sich insbesondere um eine Drehschieberpumpe mit großer Pumpleistung handelt, weist in einem Gehäuse (10) einen Pumpenraum (12) auf. In dem Pumpenraum (12) ist ein Pumpelement (14) angeordnet. Das Pumpelement (14) wird von einer Rotorwelle (22) getragen. Die Rotorwelle (22) ist mit einer außerhalb des Pumpengehäuses (10) angeordneten Riemenscheibe (24) verbunden. Ferner weist die Pumpe einen außerhalb des Pumpengehäuses (10) angeordneten Motor (26) auf. Die Antriebswelle (28) des Motors (10) trägt eine Antriebsscheibe (30). Die Antriebsscheibe (30) ist über einen Riemen (32) mit der Rotorscheibe (24) verbunden. Zur Vereinfachung der Montage sind die Antriebsscheibe (30) und/oder die Rotorscheibe (24) mehrteilig ausgebildet.

The invention relates to a tool for installing an elastic belt (12) on at least two belt pulleys (11, 64) of a belt drive (13), having guides (38, 40, 46, 48) by means of which one or more parts of the belt (12) can be guided during installation, at least in segments, substantially parallel to the circumferential surface (44) of the belt pulley (11). The tool (10) has a substantially annular or partially annular contour, flexible at least within limits, that can be adapted to different diameters of belt pulleys (11), wherein the tool (10), preferably designed as a plastic molded part, can contact the circumferential surface (44) of the belt pulley (11), and can be fixed there by means of fixing means (54), preferably tightening means, for attaching the part of the belt to the belt pulley (11).

A belt installation tool (100) for installing a belt without rotating the pulley (P) or the tool about a pulley axis of rotation. The tool comprises a ramp (11) that engages a pulley flange (F). The ramp (11) comprises a connecting member for connecting the ramp (11) to the flange (F). After the ramp is connected to a pulley flange a belt is loosely engaged with the ramp. A first lever arm (10) connected to the ramp is used to pry the ramp and belt outward by pivoting about the first connecting member until a second connecting member is engaged with the pulley flange. The ramp further comprises a member for laterally urging the belt. Once the ramp is fixed on the pulley flange a second lever arm (20), connected at a pivot point, urges the belt laterally onto the pulley. The second lever arm (20) is moveable in a direction normal to the movement of the first lever arm, thereby laterally urging the belt onto a pulley.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Werkzeug zur Montage eines elastischen Riemens auf die Riemenscheiben eines starren Riementriebes, das eine radiale Riemenführung aufweist, die den Riemen bei Drehung der Riemenscheiben über den Rand einer der Riemenscheiben von der Vorderseite der Riemenscheibe in die Nut oder die Nuten der Riemenscheibe führt und während der Montage am Aussenrand der Riemenscheibe befestigt ist, wobei das Montagewerkzeug drehfest so am Rand einer der Riemenscheiben eines Riementriebes festgeklemmt ist, dass es dabei einen Abschnitt des in einer Nut oder in Nuten der Riemenscheibe liegenden Riemens drehfest auf der Riemenscheibe mit fixiert, das Montagewerkzeug mit dem im Montagewerkzeug fixierten Abschnitt des Riemens bei Drehung der Riemenscheibe mitgedreht werden und dabei den freien, nicht fixierten Teil des Riemens in die Nut oder die Nuten der Riemenscheibe ziehen.

A belt tensioner for a motor vehicle engine comprises a pivot shaft (28) and an eccentric pivoted structure (50) mounted for pivoted movement on the pivot shaft. The belt tensioner has a rotatable pulley member (90) mounted for rotation on the eccentric pivoted structure. A spring (64) is constructed and arranged to bias the eccentric pivoted structure in a direction tending to force the rotatable pulley member into tensioning engagement with a belt (16) trained about the pulley member. A mounting bolt (14) is constructed and arranged to mount the belt tensioner on the motor vehicle engine (12), said pivot shaft being movable relative to said mounting bolt and towards said belt during a belt tensioner installation procedure. The present invention also relates to a method of installing a belt tensioner in which the pivot shaft moves in a substantially exactly linear fashion as the tensioner is moved into tensioning engagement with the belt. In a preferred embodiment, when the belt tensioner is moved into tensioning engagement with the belt, an external force is applied to the tensioner to balance any belt load forces tending to tilt the tensioner during installation. The present invention also discloses a tensioner that has contact portions that oppose the tilting force applied by the belt during installation, and a portion that extends beyond the contact portions to facilitate installation.
