Abstract:
An ice-making machine having an ice-forming surface upon which ice is formed, a refrigeration system including a microchannel evaporator that cools the ice-forming surface, and a water-supply system. The microchannel evaporator includes a microchannel tube that facilitates a distributed cooling effect in a contact area between the microchannel tube and the ice-forming surface. In some embodiments, the microchannel tube includes a series of recessed portions that define insulated regions and divide the tube into non-insulated regions. The insulated and non-insulated regions can be dimensioned to form individual ice cubes on the ice-forming surface. In other embodiments, spaces between microchannel tubes and/or spaces between the ice-forming surface and microchannel tubes can form insulated regions at least partially defining the size and shape of ice produced by the ice-making machine. The ice-forming surface can be attached to the microchannel tubes by adhesive and/or cohesive bonding material (such as glue, epoxy, or other adhesive).

Abstract:
A method for solidifying a polar substance, in particular water, is presented which comprises the steps of: providing a coolable, hydrophobic, preferably super-hydrophobic, condensation surface within an interior of a container (1); partially filling the container (1) with a polar substance, preferably in liquid form, and an immiscible additive, preferably in liquid form, so that the condensation surface remains at least partially unsubmerged; cooling the hydrophobic condensation surface to a temperature T cond below a solidification temperature T solid of the polar substance; and removing solidified polar substance from the container (1).
Abstract:
A non-stick freezing surface for freezing a thin layer of liquid food product includes a thermally conductive platen having a smooth upper surface and a coating containing PTFE (12) covering that surface. Preferably, the coating is of nickel-infused PTFE.
Abstract:
An evaporator includes an outer surface having a plurality of ice forming sections and a thermal barrier between two of the plurality of ice forming sections. The plurality of ice forming sections have an outer surface that forms a plurality of ice cubes thereon. The thermal barrier is less thermally conductive than the plurality of ice forming sections. At least two of the plurality of ice cubes are separated by the thermal barrier.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A flowable ice production machine, the machine includes a refrigeration unit (1) for supplying cold refrigerant and an ice generator (2). This has an inner cylinder (22) having an internal bore for ice generation. An outer cylinder (23) and end plates (24) are welded to the inner cylinder to provide an outer cooling space for receiving the refrigerant to cool the cylinder the outer surface of the inner cylinder. Within the bore of the inner cylinder, scrapers (32) are provided for scraping off ice formed in the internal bore. The inner cylinder is of aluminium alloy, honed, hard anodised and treated with PTFE for corrosion resistance and ready removal of ice.
Abstract:
Provided is a refrigerator with an ice maker. The ice maker includes an ice tray formed of a metal material, the ice tray providing an ice making space in which water for making an ice is supplied to make the ice and a resin layer formed of a plastic resin, the resin layer defining at least portion of the ice making space to smoothly convey the ice.

Abstract:
The invention is an apparatus and method of creating and preserving an outdoor frozen surface by covering a defined outdoor surface with a layer of white base paper after clearing debris, litter, and other objects from the defined surface which may present a hazardous condition on an ice surface. The layer of white base paper is saturated with water at near freezing or under freezing conditions to allow the water to freeze and hold the white base paper to the defined outdoor surface. Thereafter, water is continuously dispensed under freezing conditions to build up a predefined thickness ice layer on the defined outdoor surface.
