The present invention relates to an ice making apparatus (1) for use in a refrigerator which comprises a freezer compartment and an extendable case (2) inside the freezer compartment. The ice making apparatus (1) of the present invention comprises a main body (3) which is releasably installable into the case (2), one or more ice trays (4) which are rotatably disposed one above the other onto the main body (3) and an ejection mechanism (5) which has one or more separate levers (6) for twisting the ice tray (4) respectively. Each lever (6) has a rest position and a shifted position. The ejection mechanism (5) is configured such that the respective grip section (7) of each lever (6) is located above the upwardly facing section (8) of the main body (3) throughout the entire movement of the lever (6) from the respective rest position to the respective shifted position.

The ice tray includes a tray-like body having a plurality of water receiving compartments (14), primary and secondary connectors (16, 18) for connecting like ice trays one above the other in a stackable fashion and a plurality of overflow drainage holes (20) defined in the body for operably limiting a maximum water level of a filled superjacent ice tray and permitting excess water to flow therethrough and fill a subjacent ice tray relative thereto in a cascading fashion.

An elevator ice tray storage apparatus includes a storage bin and an elevator platform assembly overlying the bottom of the storage bin. The assembly includes a base member which slides on the bottom of the storage bin, and a platform for elevating an ice tray into a first elevated storage position. A handle and guides are provided for facilitating the manipulation of the elevator assembly. Rollers are provided at the back end of the platform for rolling against the back end wall of the storage bin as the elevator assembly elevates an ice tray. One or more elevated storage positions are provided, each having hinged flaps that rotate out of the way to allow a tray to pass by as it is being elevated and which rotation, on which side edges of a tray are lowered to rest.

본 발명의 사상에 따르면 제빙 트레이는 제빙수를 저수하는 제빙셀을 갖는 제 2 트레이가, 냉매관에 접촉하는 제 1 트레이의 상면에 겹쳐지도록 결합되어 마련됨으로써, 제빙 속도가 빠르면서도 얼음의 투명도가 향상될 수 있다. 제 1 트레이는 알루미늄 재질로 형성될 수 있고, 제 2 트레이는 플라스틱 재질로 형성될 수 있으며, 알루미늄 재질의 제 1 트레이는 열전도도가 높으므로 제빙실의 열교환기의 역할을 효율적으로 수행할 수 있다. 제 2 트레이에는 제빙 트레이를 제빙실 내부에 고정시키는 고정부와, 이젝터의 회전축을 수용하는 축 수용부와, 온도 센서를 수용하는 온도 센서 수용부와, 제빙 트레이와 이빙 모터를 단열시키는 에어 단열부가 일체로 형성될 수 있다.
