Abstract: An instrument (10) for aligning the spindle of machine tools such as drill presses or vertical milling machines at various angles with respect to a work surface. In one embodiment the upper portion of an elongated shaft (24) is engaged in the chuck (14) or collet of the spindle while the lower portion is operably mounted to shaft bearings (28, 32, 34), which permits the shaft to pivot, rotate and to move vertically and horizontally with respect to the work surface (16) of the machine tool. A displacement detector (54) for detecting pivotal movement of the shaft is mounted on a member of the shaft bearing in fixed relation to the pivot (30) of the shaft. A linear interface (40) provides contact between the shaft and displacement detector and permits predictable repeatable movement of the displacement detector. A frame base (70) can be interposed between the shaft bearings and work surface to facilitate the instrument's mounting and enclosure.

Abstract: A tittle obliquity measurer, comprises a housing(1), a gravity pendulum(3), a set of gears(2), and a indication device(4). The power shaft(210) of the gears is fixed on the housing, and is parallel to the bottom surface of the housing. The gravity pendulum and the power gear are integrated. When the tittle obliquity measurer is tilted, the gravity pendulum rotates all the gears, and the bottom surface of the housing may be normal to the central line of a vertical shaft which is to be measured, the bottom surface of the housing may be normal to and be crossed with the approximate plumb surface at the horizontal line which is parallel to the power shaft, the indication device can indicate the obliquity. The tittle obliquity measurer may have the two sets of gears with power shafts be normal with each other and be parallel to the bottom surface of the housing.
