    摘要: An active matrix display device comprises an array of display pixels, each pixel comprising: a current-driven light emitting display element (2); a drive transistor (22) for driving a current through the display element; a storage capacitor (24) for storing a voltage to be used for addressing the drive transistor; and an addressing transistor (16) for coupling data from a data line (6) to the pixel during pixel addressing. The addressing transistor (16) comprises a phototransistor, and the data line (6) is used for external monitoring of the phototransistor. This device design uses a pixel-addressing transistor (16) as the optical feedback element. This addressing transistor is a fundamental requirement of an active matrix-addressing scheme, and its use as a feedback element can therefore avoid any addition pixel complexity to implement an optical feedback function.

The first thin film transistor (36) is, in use, exposed to a source of illumination (2) and the second thin film transistor (16) is shielded from the source of illumination. The first thin film transistor (36) is operated in use as an analogue switch which provides an analogue output in response to a control input. The illumination of this transistor reduces the effect of dynamic threshold voltage variations, which can be a limitation to circuit performance.

    摘要: An active matrix display device comprises an array of display pixels, each pixel comprising a current-driven light emitting display element, a drive transistor for driving a current through the display element, a switching transistor in series with the drive transistor and an optical feedback arrangement for controlling the gate voltage of the switching transistor, thereby to enable control of the timing of switching off the switching transistor to isolate the display element from the drive transistor in dependence on the light output of the display element. This arrangement uses an optical feedback arrangement for the control of an additional switching transistor instead of controlling the drive transistor. The control of the drive transistor is therefore simplified, and the additional light-dependent control is for the additional switching transistor in series with the drive transistor.

    摘要: A method of displaying an input signal (IV) on a full color LED display is discussed wherein the display has pixels (11) comprising at least four LED's (PLi) which respectively emit light with four primary colors. The method comprises converting (SC) the input signal (IV) into drive signals for the at least four LED's (PLi). The converting (SC) comprises: (i) determining (RD) valid ranges (VRi) of at least two of the drive signals (DSi) to obtain a color of the combined light emitted which fits the input signal (IV), (ii) determining (LD) a gradation or lifetime indication (LTi) of the at least two LED's (PLi) for associated ones of the drive signals (DSi) within the valid ranges (VRi), and (iii) determining (CD) a combination (DCi) of values of drive signals (DSi) providing substantially the minimum degradation, or the maximum lifetime, of a combination of the at least two LED's (PLi) based on the degradation or lifetime indications (LTi).

    摘要: An active matrix device comprising an array of display pixels, each comprising a current driven light emitting display element (2), a drive transistor (T D ) for driving a current through the display element and first and second capacitors (C 1 , C 2 ) connected in series between the gate and source or drain of the drive transistor. A unidirectional charge flow device (50;60) is provided between the gate and source of the drive transistor to allow current flow from the gate to the source for resetting a drive transistor gate voltage. This is used as a reset device which avoids the need to drive is current through the display element when performing a threshold sampling operation.
