A method (1000) to automatically detect and rectify a tray block in a disk drive (100) is disclosed. The method comprises detecting an occurrence of a tray block in a disk drive (100) upon receiving a tray-out command or a tray-in command by determining whether the tray (108) is in an intermediate position for a predetermined time period, the intermediate 5 position being a position between a first position within a casing of the disk drive (100) and a second position projecting completely outwards from the casing, the tray arranged to receive a record carrier (110) when in the second position and being supported for movement between the first position and the second position. The detected tray block is rectified by cleaning a brush-commutator interface of a tray motor (102), the tray motor being arranged to 10 move the tray (108) between the first position and the second position. The technique is useful for CD, DVD and BD recorders and /or players which have the design of tray open/close mechanism.

The invention provides a disc changer including a plurality of trays which can be moved respectively in a horizontal direction, a tray driving gear unit capable of shuttling the trays between a standby position and a disc exchange position, a gear driving mechanism for driving the tray driving gear unit, a tray triggering unit capable of locking/unlocking the trays in the standby position, pushing all trays to engage with the tray driving gear unit after unlocking the trays, and driving the trays toward the disc exchange position, wherein the tray driving gear unit can be used for checking the discs by driving all trays to protrude outward from the mechanical chassis to the disc exchange position, and can drive the trays individually from the disc exchange position to the standby position from top to bottom, thereby each disc can be checked until its tray is closed.

An optical disc drive includes a housing configured for being installed within or coupled to the computer, either internally or externally. The optical disc drive further includes a plurality of compartments configured for holding a respective plurality of optical discs within the housing. The optical discs may be placed within the compartments in any one of a variety of manners. The optical disc drive includes electronic componentry contained within the housing and configured for reading data from the optical discs and/or writing data to the optical discs. The electronic componentry may include a plurality of channels for simultaneously reading data from the optical discs and/or writing data to the optical discs. The door of the disc drive may contain a mini-digital display for viewing disc contents, titles, annotations, and may have programmable function buttons. The list of files on the optical disc may be browsed via this digital display.
