Abstract: A door pod assembly includes a housing that defines a cavity for emergency equipment, a pod door, and a latch retaining the pod door in a closed position relative to the housing. The assembly is configured such that the latches, upon activation free the release door thereby exposing the emergency equipment and allowing it to be deployed. The door pod assembly may be coupled to an interior surface of a baggage compartment door and is configured so that the baggage compartment may continue to be used for its originally intended purpose.

Abstract: Systems and methods for multi-exit evacuation for aircraft are disclosed. In one embodiment, an inflatable evacuation slide for emergency evacuation includes two coupled inflatable portions. The first inflatable portion (112), which includes a first inclined sliding surface, is configured to provide downward egress from an, over-wing exit (108). Similarly, the second inflatable portion (114), which includes a second inclined surface, is likewise configured to provide downward egress from a non over-wing exit (106). In particular embodiments, the inflatable portions are configured to be deployed from a storage location proximate the over-wing and non over-wing exits. In other embodiments, at least one of the first and second inflatable portions includes a lateral area for horizontal movement (120). In alternative embodiments, the inflatable evacuation slide further includes a divider rail (124) disposed between the first inflatable portion and the second inflatable portion.

Abstract: Systems for inhibiting installation of emergency escape slides (14) behind bustles (or other covers) when removable safety pins (22) (or similar objects) remain intact are addressed. Versions of the systems mechanically interfere with installation of the bustles as long as the safety pins (22) remain in place. Only when all safety pins are removed can the mechanical impediment be detached (or moved sufficiently) to permit installation of the bustles.

Abstract: A high strength T-joint (60) for an inflatable tubular member (26) is formed by forming a butt joint between the end of a first tubular member (46) and the side wall of a second tubular member (26). The opening (64) in the side wall of the second tubular member (26) is sized to match the end of the first tubular member (46) so that a sealing flange (66) can be applied to the inner surface of the joint to provide an airtight seal. A reinforcing flange (76) comprising a disk-shaped piece of fabric having a center opening (80) is then bonded over the opening (64) in the second tubular member (26). The center opening (80) in the reinforcing flange (76) is substantially smaller than the opening (64) in the second tubular member (26). Therefore the reinforcing flange (76) substantially reduces the size of the discontinuity in the side wall of the second tubular member (46), thereby substantially increasing the circumferential ("hoop") load capacity of the side wall of the second tubular member (26) and substantially increasing the rupture pressure of the joint (60).

Abstract: An inflatable evacuation slide (10) includes a feature (48) for propelling disembarking passengers onto their feet at the toe end of the slide (10). In one embodiment, the slide comprises a fabric sliding surface (30) stretched between two lateral side rail tubes (24, 26). The lateral side rail tubes (24, 26) are supported by plurality of transverse tubes (46, 48) and transverse trusses (52, 54) such that the side rail tubes maintain the sliding surface in a taut condition suitable for use as a slide. The foot end (16) of the slide includes a transverse tube (48) having a reduced diameter and a lower surface (90) that is suspended above the ground or other surface on which the foot end of the evacuation slide is resting. The suspended toe end transverse tube (48) has a lower spring rate than a full-diameter transverse toe end tube. Therefore, the suspended toe end transverse tube (48) provides the appropriate springiness for catapulting a sliding passenger onto his or her feet at the foot end of the slide (10) notwithstanding the higher inflation pressure.
