Abstract:
An imitation candle (100) has a self supporting candle body (1) with an artificial wick (2). The artificial wick (2) extends from the body (1) and supports a light emitting diode (3) at an exposed location spaced from the candle body (1). An energization circuit (29) for the light emitting diode (3) is housed within the candle body (1) with electrical leads (11) extending from the energization circuit along the artificial wick (2) for connection to the light emitting diode (3).

An active material cartridge comprises a frame and an active material refill. The active material refill comprises at least one reservoir having an active material therein and a protrusion extending from a first end thereof. The active material refill is disposed on and attached to the frame.
Abstract:
An illuminable apparatus including a thematic structure configured with an operably closed chamber and defining an opening extending between an exterior of the structure and the operably closed chamber. A light source is arranged within the operably closed chamber of the structure, and an electric circuit operably connects the light source to a power source to allow the light source to provide luminescence viewable through the opening in the structure. The electric circuit includes a sensor for sensing motion of air passing through the opening in the structure, and further includes a light source control apparatus connected to the sensor for controlling the luminescence provided by the light source. The light source control apparatus is configured to change the luminescence provided by the light source when the motion of air is sensed through the opening in the structure. A method of operating such an illuminable apparatus to produce controlled levels of illumination is also provided.
Abstract:
Various components for artificial candles and other lighting devices are described that can be used to create a realistic flame effect in the devices. The devices include a flame element that extends upwardly from a housing. A light source can be disposed with respect to the flame element such that the flame element is illuminated. A variety of drive mechanisms could be disposed within the body of the device that can cause movement of the flame element with respect to the housing. The flame element can be coupled to a housing or mounting bracket of the device using various components to suspend the flame element within the housing.

An illuminable apparatus including a thematic structure (12) configured with an operably closed chamber (30) and defining an opening (32) between an exterior of the structure (12) and the operably closed chamber (30) of the structure, and an electric circuit (80) operably connects the light source (70) to a power source (90) to allow the light source to provide luminescence viewable through the opening in the structure. The electric circuit includes a sensor (102) for sensing motion of air passing through the opening in the structure; and further includes a light source control apparatus (100) connected to the sensor for controlling the luminescence provided by the light source. The light source control apparatus is configured to change the luminescence provided by the light source when the motion of air is sensed through the opening in the structure. A method of operating such an illuminable apparatus to produce controlled levels of illumination is also provided.
Abstract:
The invention describes a simulated flame fire comprising a housing configured to support an active display screen. The display screen is responsive to an electrical signal to provide a flame effect display which may be viewed by a viewer to the front of the fire. The fire includes a first artificial fuel bed and a second artificial fuel bed. By positioning the display screen between the first and second artificial fuel beds the displayed flames appear to emanate from the centre of the fuel bed.
Abstract:
A flameless candle includes a shell that has a sidewall and a hollow interior region. The sidewall can be made of a waxen material. The sidewall has a thickness and opacity. The shell also has a hollow interior region within the sidewall. A lamp (for example, LED) may be housed within the hollow interior region. The flameless candle also includes an insert. The insert can be made of a waxen material that may have different properties from the material of the sidewall. The insert is positioned in a top area of the hollow interior region. The insert includes a shading wall that has a thickness and opacity. The thickness of the sidewall may be different than the thickness of the shading wall. As another option, the opacity of the sidewall may be different from the opacity of the shading wall.
Abstract:
An apparatus (100) creating a flickering flame effect. The apparatus (100) includes a housing (102, 104) with an interior space with first and second stages (103, 105). A drive mechanism (101) generates a time varying electromagnetic field extending into the first stage (103). A first pendulum member (111) is pivotally mounted in the interior space of the first stage (103) and includes first and second magnets (114, 115) on first and second ends, with the first end proximate to the drive mechanism (101) such that the first magnet (114) interacts with the varying electromagnetic field to cause movement of the pendulum member (111). The apparatus (100) includes a second pendulum member (121) pivotally mounted in the second stage (105) with a magnet (124) on a first end proximate to the second end of the first pendulum member (111). A flame silhouette element (125) extends from the second pendulum member (121), and a light source (107) transmits light (127) onto the flame silhouette (125), which is moving due to the magnetic coupling of the pendulum members (111, 121).
Abstract:
A low-power illumination apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a mounting for securely mounting to a building surface in a residence or building. A light bulb socket is electrically connected to an external power source through a hollow housing which holds the socket and the electrical wiring providing the power. The housing may include decorative aspects.
