A combination motorized and propelled apparatus and moment imparting device is provided to improve the stability of the apparatus in motion with regard to pitch, roll and yaw. The moment imparting device uses one or more rotational members rotating around one or more axes to create a net rotational moment force around a desired axis of rotation. The moment imparting device is in communication with the motorized apparatus to translate that moment force to the motorized apparatus to improve stability or induce a desired rotation.

The present invention relates to reaction wheel assembly and fiber optic gyro device. The device includes a reaction wheel assembly having a reaction wheel assembly housing, a fiber optic gyro coil integrated with the reaction wheel assembly housing, and a fiber optic gyro electronics integrated with the reaction wheel assembly housing. The fiber optic gyro coil may be wound around the reaction wheel assembly housing. The gyro coil may also be located within the reaction wheel assembly housing.
Abstract:
A device for stabilizing of a remotely controlled sensor like a camera is disclosed. It comprises a gimbal system with an inner yaw gimbal (1) carrying the sensor and an outer yaw gimbal (8) and an inner pitch gimbal (4) and outer pitch gimbal (6). Inner yaw and pitch gimbals are stabilized by a two-axes self-acting rategyro and outer yaw and pitch gimbals are stabilized by a system with set motors (10, 11), electric rategyros (13, 14) and an electronic unit (15). The device is especially characterized in that a mechanical coupling, comprising a resilient coupling means (16) connects the inner yaw gimbal (1) with the outer pitch gimbal (6).

An apparatus and method are described for utilizing internally generated angular momentum for supplementing the propulsion of a mobile spherical vehicle capable of motion by rolling over terrain, thereby enabling such vehicles to climb steeper inclines and overcome larger obstacles. Torque generated by counter-rotating gyroscopes was used to supplement gravity generated torque produced by a pendulum drive propulsion system. Precession torque may be generated along a desired axis by changing the angular momentum of the gyroscopes while leaving its magnitude unaffected.

El actuador giroscópico es un nuevo dispositivo basado en un mecanismo diseñado para aprovechar la conservación del momento cinético, de forma que suministra un par (momento) a la plataforma en la que se encuentra ubicado. De esta manera puede orientar a esta plataforma en cabeceo, balanceo o guiñada, consiguiendo que tenga la actitud que un sistema de control requiera. Methods and apparatus are provided for reorienting control moment gyros (CMGs) (10) to compensate for CMG (10) failure or change in spacecraft (S/C) mass properties or mission. An improved CMG (10) comprises a drive means for rotating the CMG (10) around an axis (18) not parallel to the CMG gimbal axis. Releasable clamps lock the CMG (10) to the spacecraft except during CMG array reorientation. CMGs arrays (50) are combined with attitude sensors (102), a command module (104), memory (108) for storing data and programs, CMG drivers (112) and sensors (114) (preferably for each CMG axis (18, 22, 30)), and a controller (116) coupling these elements. The method comprises determining whether a CMG (10) has failed or the S/C properties of mission changed, identifying the working CMGs (10) of the array, determining a new array reorientation for improved spacecraft control, unlocking, reorienting and relocking the CMGs (10) in the array and updating the S/C control parameters for the new array orientation.

The inertial body (60) preferably comprises a rotor (13) so that gyroscopic forces are applied to the torque shaft (57).
