Abstract:
Abstract:
A brace for preventing injuries to annular pulley ligaments in fingers of human hands includes a proximal band dimensioned to be worn on a proximal phalanx of a finger, a distal band dimensioned to be worn on a middle phalanx, and a coupling attached to the bands. The band may be worn in position overlying an annular pulley ligament of the fingers. The coupling may bias the bands away from each other to promote retention over the annular pulley ligaments. The coupling may limit movement of bands (and thus finger) to a predetermined range of motion for avoiding tearing of the annular pulley ligament. The coupling may provide a mechanical stop limiting movement to positions in which annular pulley injuries are less likely. The coupling may be provided as a gas-pressurized struts or compressible coil springs, which may be mounted to the bands in diametrically opposed positions.
Abstract:
A knee orthosis has two vertical struts positioned on opposed sides of a knee joint in a generally parallel relationship. Each vertical strut has a hinge member located at a general middle potion; each vertical strut has a top and bottom end portion. An upper thigh cuff attaches at opposed ends to the upper end portions of the two vertical struts whereas a lower shin cuff attaches at opposed ends to the lower end portions. The lower shin cuff has a pair of hinges located proximal to the shin cuff opposed ends for permitting the shin cuff to pivot downwardly away from a shin of a person wearing the knee orthosis. An alternate embodiment employs hinges located proximal to the thigh cuff opposed ends for permitting the thigh cuff to pivot upwardly away from a thigh of a person when the same motion is performed.
Abstract:
A knee brace including upper and lower leg frames positionable above and below a knee having a patella, the upper and lower leg frames being pivotally connected together by a pair of hinges positionable on opposite sides of the knee, wherein a patella guard positionable over the patella is connected between the hinges separately from the upper and lower leg frames, so that in use the patella guard maintains position over the patella independently of relative pivotal movement of the upper and lower leg frames.
Abstract:
An orthopedic brace is provided that includes one or more pad plates formed of a light-curable material and a hinge comprising one or more hinge framework elements connected to the one or more pad plates. The pad plates may include an elastomeric shell to contain the light-curable material. A rigid attachment member may be coupled to the elastomeric shell to couple to the hinge framework element.
Abstract:
An additively manufactured ankle-foot orthosis. The ankle-foot orthosis includes an additively manufactured footplate and a calf cuff separate from the additively manufactured footplate. A pre-fabricated strut connects the additively manufactured footplate to the additively manufactured calf cuff and includes thickness and width adapted to define a patient-specific stiffness about an ankle joint of a patient. The stiffness of the pre-fabricated strut is suited to one or more of a gait need or a gait requirement of each patient, and the additively manufactured footplate has a portion with a shape complementary to a shape of a portion of the pre-fabricated strut. So configured, a collective shape and volume of the additively manufactured footplate and the pre-fabricated strut together are adapted to fit inside a shoe of the patient.
Abstract:
A wrap assembly is for mimicking muscular action and contraction of a muscle of a person. The wrap assembly includes a first wrap panel configured to be securely selectively wrapped around a first portion of a limb of the person, in which the limb has the muscle. A second wrap panel is configured to be securely selectively wrapped around a second portion of the limb of the person. The second wrap panel is also configured to be securely selectively wrapped around a third portion of the limb of the person. The first wrap panel and the second wrap panel are configured to be selectively connectable with each other.
Abstract:
Abstract:
An ankle support, comprising a rear-entry ankle cuff adapted to be worn adjacently above lateral and medial malleoli of an ankle, and an open-heel, open-malleoli and open-toe midfoot member extending forwardly and downwardly from the ankle cuff.
Abstract:
A garment-based system, construction and method controls knee brace displacement relative to a brace- outfitted lower extremity. The garment-based system includes or is cooperable with a knee brace, a waist-encircling anchor structure, an anchor-to-brace tether structure, and certain tether-to-brace attachment structures. The waist-encircling anchor structure is receivable about a user' s waist and fixable in a transverse anchor plane. The inelastic anchor-to-brace tether structure is fastened to the waist-encircling anchor structure and extends in a first direction orthogonal to the transverse anchor plane. The tether-to-brace attachment structure(s) fasten the knee brace to the anchor-to-brace tether structure, and are immovable in the first direction. The anchor structure, the tether structure, and the attachment structure together function to control knee brace displacement relative to the lower extremity for maintaining the a brace-based pivot axis in proper anatomical alignment with the variable knee axis.
