Herein is disclosed is an Advancement of Amended Silicates, for use in wet FGD scrubbers to prevent reduction and emission of dissolved mercury from the scrubber liquid, thus preventing increased mercury emissions to the atmosphere. The advancements are 3-fold: (1) a manufacturing process whereby the product slurry particles are created by reaction of metal sulfates with metal sulfide in solution, in the presence of a non-swelling substrate, whereby a combination of metal sulfides deposits on the substrate and forms a reactive metal-sulfide coating; (2) a more reactive Amended Silicate product, produced from the disclosed manufacturing method, whereby the advanced product more effectively captures dissolved mercury and transforms it into a mercuric sulfide compound on the surface of the Amended Silicate product slurry particles; and (3) the disclosed method of utilizing the advanced Amended Silicate product, whereby the product is injected directly into the wet FGD scrubber liquid as a slurry.

Disclosed herein is a composite material formed from an inorganic mesoporous, or mesoporous-like, material, including mesoporous silica, mesoporous carbon, mesoporous zinc oxide, bentonite and kaolinite clay that is dispersed throughout a polymeric matrix formed by a crosslinked polymer. The crosslinked polymer has acidic- or basic-residues, wherein the basic residues are formed from a monomeric material with at least one ethylenic bond and an amide functional group (e.g. acrylamide), and the acidic residues are formed from a monomer material with at least one ethylenic bond and a carboxylic acid functional group (e.g. acrylic acid). Said composite material may also optionally have further acidic- or basic-residues grafted onto the inorganic mesoporous material. The resulting composite material may be used to remove acidic or basic impurities from a gas in need thereof and can be easily regenerated.

A method for separating undesired components from gas mixtures comprises the following steps of providing a gas mixture containing at least two gaseous components, wherein one component is an undesired component, feeding water to the gas mixture, forming a hydrate of the undesired component and a remaining gas mixture, wherein the hydrate is formed by spraying a combination comprising the water and the gas mixture, and separating the hydrate from the remaining gas mixture.

본 발명은 이산화탄소를 비롯한 산성 가스 포집 시스템에서, 흡수제 재생을 위한 재생탑에 제공해야 하는 열량을 감축시킬 수 있는 시스템 및 그 방법에 관한 것으로, 산성 가스를 포집하는 시스템에서 시스템 자체의 열을 활용하여 에너지 소모를 줄일 수 있는 산성 가스 포집 시스템 및 산성 가스 포집 방법을 제공한다. 본 발명의 시스템 및 방법은 포집 시스템에서 발생하는 온도가 낮은 응축수를 재생탑 상단 냉각, 증기 생성 및 압축기 냉각에 활용하여 재비기 요구 열량을 낮춤으로써 에너지 절감 효과를 나타낸다.
