A tool for roll-forming a noncircular lip of a component includes a central shaft, first and second axles, and first and second rollers. The central shaft has a longitudinal axis. The central shaft is adapted to rotate about the longitudinal axis. The axles extend from and are fixed to the central shaft. The axles have respective first and second lateral axes that extend substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The rollers are rotatably coupled to respective axles, adapted to rotate about the respective lateral axes, radially spaced with respect to the longitudinal axis, and circumferentially spaced with respect to each other. The first and second rollers are adapted to concurrently operably engage the noncircular lip, and deform the noncircular lip.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Metallband hergestellt aus Stahl durch Erzeugen eines Warmbandes durch Warmwalzen und Kaltwalzen des Metallbandes, darüber hinaus betrifft die Erfindung eine Platine, welche aus dem erfindungsgemäßen Metallband hergestellt ist sowie dessen Verwendung und ein Verfahren zur Herstellung des Metallbandes. Die Aufgabe, ein Metallband zu Verfügung zu stellen, aus welchem mit geringem Aufwand an spezifische Belastungen angepasste Bauteile mit minimalem Gewicht herstellbar sind, wird durch ein gattungsgemäßes Metallband gelöst, das nach dem Kaltwalzen eine konstante Metallbanddicke und abschnittsweise Bereiche mit variierenden mechanischen Eigenschaften aufweist. Nach dem Kaltwalzen im Sinne der vorliegenden Erfindung bedeutet, dass unmittelbar nach Abschluss des Kaltwalzens, d.h. ohne eine weitere Behandlung, beispielsweise einer Temperaturbehandlung, Bereiche variierender mechanischer Eigenschaften im Metallband vorhanden sind.

A B-shaped reinforcement beam is formed from a sheet of material to include vertically spaced upper and lower tubular sections, with a channel-shaped rib formed centrally in the unsupported portion of the front wall over each tube section. The ribs acts to stiffen and stabilize the front wall, causing the actual bending strength of the B beam to be much closer to expected theoretical values. In one form, the ribs have a vertical dimension about 33%-50% of a height of the tubular sections and a depth of about 50%-100% of the rib's height. The rib is particularly effective when the material is less than 2.2 mm, more than 80 KSI, and/or has a significant height-to-depth ratio such as 3:1.

A method of continuously rolling a ferrous workpiece (10) into a finished round (10e), comprising rolling the workpiece in successive first and second roll passes (P1, P2) at an elevated temperature of between about 650 to 1000 C, the first and second roll passes each being defined by two work rolls (12, 16) and being dimensioned to effect a combined reduction in the cross sectional area of the workpiece of at least about 20-55%, with an accompanying effective strain pattern dominated by a concentration of maximum effective strain at a central region (a) of the cross sectional area; and while the effective strain pattern remains dominated by a concentration of maximum effective strain at a central region of the cross ection, continuing to roll the workpiece in at least third and fourth consecutive roll passes (P3, P4), each of the third and fourth roll passes being defined by at least three rolls (20, 24) and being sized to effect a combined reduction in the cross sectional area of the workpiece of not more than about 4-25 %.
