Abstract: A method is provided for making a fiber wire having a fiber bundle core (504) and a polymer jacket (506). The method includes rotating a spool of fiber bundle about a first rotational axis to progressively unwind the fiber bundle from the spool. The fiber bundle includes a plurality of continuous synthetic fiber filaments. While the spool is rotated about the first rotational axis, the spool is simultaneously rotated about a second rotational axis to thereby twist the unwound fiber bundle about its longitudinal axis. The method further includes coating the twisted fiber bundle with a molten polymer, and permitting the molten polymer to cool to define a flexible outer jacket that encapsulates the twisted fiber bundle.

Abstract: Die Erfindung betrifft eine Imprägniervorrichtung zum Imprägnieren mindestens eines quasiendlosen Fasermaterials mit einem Kunststoffmaterial, das bei einer entsprechenden Prozesstemperatur aufgeschmolzen ist, aufweisend mindestens einen Faserzuführkanal mit einer Fasereinführung, um das quasiendlose Fasermaterial der Imprägniervorrichtung zuzuführen, und mindestens einen Kunststoffzuführkanal mit einer zu der Fasereinführung getrennt vorliegenden Kunststoffeinführung, um das Kunststoffmaterial getrennt zu dem Fasermaterial der Imprägniervorrichtung zuzuführen, wobei der mindestens Faserzuführkanal und der mindestens Kunststoffzuführkanal zumindest abschnittsweise getrennt vorliegen und in einer gemeinsamen Impräg- nierkavität münden, um das quasiendlose Fasermaterial mit dem zugeführten und aufgeschmolzenen Kunststoffmaterial zu imprägnieren, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Fasereinführung ein von der übrigen Imprägniervorrichtung getrenntes Bauteil ist, das zum lösbaren Anordnen an der Imprägniervorrichtung ausgebildet ist und das mindestens zwei von einem geöffneten Zustand in einen geschlossenen Zustand bringbare Einzelelemente aufweist, die im geschlossenen Zustand zumindest einen Abschnitt des Faserzuführkanals ausbilden.

Abstract: Process for the production of a glass fiber reinforced polymer tape, comprising the subsequent steps of a) unwinding from a package of at least one continuous glass multifilament strand; b) applying the impregnating agent to said strands to form the impregnated continuous multifilament strands; c) applying a sheath of thermoplastic polymer around said multifilament strand to form a sheathed continuous multifilament strand, wherein wherein the tex number of the glass multifilament strand is in the range from 520 to 980, the amount of the at least one continuous glass multifilament strand in the composition is from 55 to 70 wt-% on the basis of the total weight of the composition; d) providing the plurality of sheathed continuous multifilament strands obtained in step c); e) placing the plurality of sheathed continuous multifilament strands in parallel alignment in the longitudinal direction; f) grouping the plurality of sheathed continuous multifilament strands; wherein steps e) and f) are performed such that the sheathed continuous multifilament strand can be consolidated; and g) subsequently consolidating the plurality of sheathed continuous multifilament strands to form a tape.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing thermoplastic components (130) includes receiving, by a movable die (102) with an internal grooved surface (170) that has a plurality of longitudinal grooves (171), spread dry fiber tows (108). The method also includes receiving, by the movable die and from a polymer extruder (104), molten polymer (110). The method also includes wetting, by the movable die, the spread fiber tows with the molten polymer. The method also includes moving, by the movable die, the wet fiber tows along the plurality of longitudinal grooves in a direction parallel to a length of the longitudinal grooves. The method also includes depositing, by the movable die, a layer of the wet fiber tows on a printing surface (114). The movable die moves along the printing surface to form a thermoplastic component of one or more layers of fiber tows on the printing surface.
