    Abstract: Mixing process for producing an elastomeric composition, the process comprising providing an emulsion stored in a liquid phase in an emulsion reservoir (12a) of an emulsion storage installation (12); providing a charge material stored in a solid phase in a discharge hopper (18a) of a charge dosing system (18); providing a mixing installation (20) comprising an extruder (22) disposed in a corresponding barrel (24) having multiple pre-defined production zones (24a to 24d) along which a mixture is prepared from the emulsion and the charge material and an egress extent (20a) from which the mixture is discharged as the elastomeric composition; feeding a predetermined volume of the emulsion from the emulsion reservoir and a predetermined volume of the charge from the discharge hopper directly to a feeding zone (24a) of the mixing installation (20); conveying the mixture from the feeding zone (24a) toward the egress extent (20a) such that a residence time of the mixture in each production zone is controlled prior to transport to a subsequent production zone; and discharging the elastomeric composition.

    Abstract: A product and process for the formation that may be used to provide plant-based protein for animal, and in particular human, nutrition. The present invention also relates to extrusion technology and products and processes that relate thereto. The invention relates to high moisture meat analogues (HMMAs) prepared by extrusion using a unique extrusion die and the extrusion die itself. The unique extrusion die may be a long extrusion die which tapers from a first height to a second height, and reverse tapers from a first width to a second width to allow for a roughly constant flow rate through the die. The extrusion die may preferably only cool the extruded material over part of the die to help maintain a reduced viscosity and maintain a desirable flowrate.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a band heater assembly (100). The band heater assembly (100) includes a thermally insulating band (105) that encases a screw barrel (110). The band (105) is defined by a plurality of channel blocks (105a,105b, 105c,..., 105n) interlocked with each other by means of a securing means. Each block (105a,105b,..., 105n) is defined by an interior surface that rests against the outer surface of the barrel (110), and an operative exterior surface. The assembly (100) further includes heating elements (115) embedded in the band (105). Each heating element (115) is held at a predetermined gap from the surface of the barrel (110) by the band (105), thereby resulting in uniform distribution of heat. Hence, smaller number of heating elements (115) is required for achieving the desired heat distribution.
