The present disclosure provides systems and methods for product handling and dispensing. In one aspect, the present disclosure provides a system comprising a plurality of storage units for storing one or more trays comprising one or more items; one or more dispense conveyors for lifting and dispensing at least one of the one or more items into one or more receiving units; and a shuttle comprising one or more tray retrieval mechanisms, wherein the shuttle is (a) movable relative to the plurality of storage units and (b) configured to (i) pick at least one tray of the one or more trays using the one or more tray retrieval mechanisms and (ii) transport the at least one tray to the one or more dispense conveyors.

A harvesting vehicle including harvesters configured to pick crops. The system also can include a crop fluid transporter configured to transport the crops. The system additionally can include one or more inspectors to classify the crops into a classification. The system further can include one or more packers configured to pack the crops in containers. An apparatus to serially invert items. The configured to invert items, either one or multiple at one time. There is preferably an entry conveyer configured to support and convey items towards the apparatus. The apparatus comprises a tilting assembly. The tilting assembly is configured to tilt, to invert said items. Once inverted the items are egressed from the tilting assembly to an exit conveyer. The item may be a stack of trays carrying items such as fruit, once the stack is subsequently inverted, a case or box may be laid over the inverted stack.

A reusable container assembly including, a container having a plurality of tapered sidewalls extending substantially upwardly from a bottom surface forming an opening and an interior space. The bottom surface includes a plurality of feet extending substantially downwardly from the bottom surface. The assembly also includes a lid having a plurality of tapered sidewalls extending substantially downwardly from a top surface, the tapered sidewalls of the lid being configured to receive the tapered sidewalls of the container, such that the lid seals the opening of the container. The top surface of the lid also includes a plurality of raised corners extending substantially upwardly from the top surface, and the feet of the container are configured to receive the raised corners of the lid, when the lid is positioned beneath the container in a stacked configuration.

A method of manufacturing a modified atmosphere package is provided which comprises the steps of: providing a portion of packaging material; providing a portion of produce; forming, from the portion of packaging material and the portion of produce, a closed package defining a package volume and containing in the package volume the portion of produce and a modified atmosphere. The modified atmosphere is modified with respect to the ambient atmosphere. The method comprises providing the modified atmosphere in the package volume by providing a gas mixture of at least one atmosphere modification gas and pressurised air in the package volume. An associated apparatus is also provided.

A method, comprising steps: (a) placing a plurality of produce in an airtight chamber having a quantity of air and a first pressure, wherein the plurality of produce comprises water; (b) removing the quantity of air via a first vacuum pump to reduce the first pressure in the airtight chamber providing a vacuum cooling effect, wherein the water evaporates until the plurality of produce reaches a predetermined temperature; (c) packaging each individual produce of the plurality of produce in a container, wherein the container has a second pressure; (d) reducing the second pressure via a second vacuum pump; and (e) injecting a nitrogen gas inside the container until the container reaches a third pressure.
