Abstract:
Disclosed is a liquid crystal composition characterized by containing 15% by mass or more of a compound having a terminal structure represented by the general formula (I) below. This liquid crystal composition has high dielectric constant anisotropy ( e) and low rotational viscosity (? 1 ), and is thus suitably used as a liquid crystal composition for IPS liquid crystal displays or low voltage-driven TN liquid crystal displays. (I) (In the above formula, Q represents a saturated or unsaturated alkyl group having 1-8 carbon atoms which may be substituted by a halogen atom.)
Abstract:
Novel liquid crystal compounds which exhibit high negative anisotropy of permittivity, and are excellent in low-temperature compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds, lowly viscous and chemically and physically stable; liquid crystal compositions containing the same; and liquid crystal displays made by using the compositions. The liquid crystal compounds are represented by general formula (1), where in A , A , A and A are each a single bond, 1,4-cyclohexylene, optionally fluorinated 1,4-phenylene, or the like; B , B , B and B are each a single bond, 1,2-ethylene, 1,2-ethenylene, 1,2-ethynylene, oxymethylene, methylene-oxy, or the like; R and R are each C1-C10 alkyl or the like; and Z is a group represented by general formula (I), (II), (III), (IV), (V) or (VI), wherein X is H or F; and Y is difluoromethyl, difluoromethoxy, formyl or carboxyl.
Abstract:
The invention relates to difluoroacetonitrile derivatives of formula (I), R?1-A1-Z1-(A2-Z2)¿m-A3-CF2-CN in which A?1, A2 and A3¿ are mutually independently (a) a trans 1,4-cyclohexylene radical in which one or more non-adjacent CH¿2? groups may be substituted by -O- and/or -S-, (b) a 1,4-phenylene radical in which one or two CH groups may be substituted by N, (c) a radical from the group 1,3-cyclobutylene, 1,3-bicyclo (1,1,1)pentylene, 1,4-cyclohexenylene, 1,4-bicyclo (2,2,2)octylene, piperidine-1,4-diyl, naphthaline-2,6-diyl, decahydronaphthaline-2,6-diyl and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthaline-2,6-diyl, in which radicals (a) and (b) may be substituted by CN or halogen, R?1¿ is an alkyl or alkenyl radical which is unsubstituted or simply substituted by CN, halogen or CF¿3? with up to 15 C atoms, whereby in these radicals one or more CH2 groups may be mutually independently substituted by -S-, -O-, -(α)-, -(β)-, -CO-, -CO-O-, -O-CO- or -O-CO-O- in such a way that S and/or O atoms are not directly interlinked, Z?1 and Z2¿ are mutually independently -CH¿2?CH2-, -C=C-, -CH2O-, -OCH2-, -CO-O-, -CH=N-, -N=CH-, -CH2S-, -SCH2-, a single bond or an alkylene group with 3 to 6 C atoms, in which one CH2 group may be substituted by -O-, -CO-, -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -CH halogen- or -CHCN-, and m is O, 1 or 2, and their use as components of liquid crystal media for electro-optical displays.
Abstract:
