Abstract:
Methods for producing a fuel or fuel precursor and other products from lipid-containing biomass comprising heating an aqueous slurry comprising lipids containing biomass and water in a pressure vessel in the presence of a metal base to produce a solid phase comprising one or more precipitated metal soaps and an aqueous phase, seperating the solid phase from the aqueous phase, and heating the solid phase to the decomposition temperature of the one or more metal soaps.
Abstract:
The invention relates to petrochemistry and more particularly to methods of processing oil which can be used in refineries to increase the depth of said oil processing. The inventive process includes several traditional processing stages such as dehydration and desalination of crude oil, direct distillation in order to obtain gasoline fractions, vacuum distillation which enables kerosene, diesel and fuel oil fractions fuel oil to be obtained, in addition to an inventive secondary processing stage, whereby secondary processing stage consists in a preliminary oil processing after the stages of dehydration and desalination, said secondary stage including a treatment with inorganic basic or acid solutions at a temperature between 100 and 150 DEG C during 0.1 to 2.0 hours.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for de-acidifying crude oil and/or crude oil distillate, said process comprising: (a) contacting crude oil and/or crude oil distillate with a Group IIA metal hydroxide in the presence of water, wherein water is present in a concentration of 0.01 to 100 wt.% of the crude oil and/or crude oil distillate; and (b) introducing a demulsifier to the mixture of crude oil and/or crude oil distillate, Group IIA metal hydroxide and water, in an amount effective to cause the mixture to separate into an oil-rich phase, an aqueous phase and an interface layer disposed between the oil-rich phase and aqueous phase.

Abstract:
A process for deacidifying a crude oil and/or crude oil distallate containing organic acids, said process comprising: (a) contacting the crude oil and/or crude oil distillate with (i) a Group IA metal salt selected from the group containing of Group IA metal oxides, hydroxides and alkoxides and (ii) a polar solvent, in the presence of less than 5 % volume of water based on the volume of the crude oil and/or crude oil distillate such that at least a portion of the organic acids are converted into Group IA metal neutralisation salts thereof and at least a portion of the neutralisation salts are extracted into the polar solvent as an extract phase; and separating a crude oil and/or crude oil distillate phase which is reduced in acidity from the polar solvent extract phase.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for reprocessing waste oils and producing high-grade base oils, whereby waste oil is treated by means of distillation, thin-film evaporation in a high vacuum, optional fractionation for separation into layers of different viscosities and subsequent extraction with N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and/or N-formylmorpholine. The invention also relates to base oils that can be obtained by said method and to the use thereof. The inventive method is characterized in that approximately any waste oil can be used, including waste oils with polychlorinated biphenylene (PCB) or PCB substitutes with contents of up to 250 mg/kg. Furthermore, waste oils containing up to 5 % vegetable oil can be present in the waste oil that is to be reprocessed without impairing the quality of the base oil. The undesirable constituents, especially polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and polychlorinated biphenylenes (PCB) or the substitutes thereof are removed in an almost quantitative manner.
Abstract:
The instant invention is directed to a process for reducing organic acids in petroleum feeds containing organic acids comprising: (a) thermally treating a petroleum feed containing organic acids in a thermal reaction zone comprising a plurality of stages in series, at a temperature and pressure sufficient to decompose at least a portion of said organic acids while sweeping said plurality of stages with an inert gas, to produce a volatile organic acid containing hydrocarbon fraction and a non-volatile hydrocarbon fraction; (b) treating said volatile hydrocarbon fraction to neutralize at least a portion of said organic acids therein and to produce a treated volatile hydrocarbon fraction; (c) collecting said non-volatile hydrocarbon fraction from said thermal reaction zone; and (d) blending said treated volatile hydrocarbon fraction of step (b) with said collected non-volatile hydrocarbon fraction.
