Methods are described for forming unitary fabric elements for use in engineered thermal fabric articles, including, but not limited to, thermal fabric garments, thermal fabric home textiles, and thermal fabric upholstery covers, and for forming these engineered thermal fabric articles, having predetermined discrete regions of contrasting insulative capacity positioned about the thermal fabric article in correlation to insulative requirements of a user's body. The fabric element has at least two regions of contrasting insulative capacity. The method includes designing a pattern and combining yarns in a continuous web according to the pattern. In one implementation, loop yarn in first regions is formed to a first pile height, and loop yarn in other regions is formed to another, different, relatively greater pile height. In another implementation, loop yarn having a first shrinkage performance is formed in first regions to a predetermined loop height, and loop yarn having another, different shrinkage performance is formed in other regions to the predetermined loop height, or other loop height; the loops are cut and finished to a common pile height and the continuous web is exposed to heat to cause loop yarn to shrink to one or more different pile heights. In both implementations, the method includes the further steps of: finishing one or both surfaces of the continuous web to form regions of contrasting pile heights; and removing the fabric element from the continuous web according to the predetermined pattern of regions. Unitary fabric elements and engineered thermal fabric articles, including, but not limited to, garments and home textiles, formed of the unitary fabric element and farmed, e.g., by methods of the disclosure are also described.

A process for manufacturing a tubular knitted item (1) with intarsia design, comprising the steps of: - programming a circular weft knitting machine for intarsia design by defining a tubular intarsia knitted item (1) to be manufactured, extending longitudinally between a first end (2) and a second end (3) and consisting of a plurality of knitted courses following one another; wherein the programming step comprises the steps of: - defining a turning position (4), which divides the tubular item into a first fabric (5) and a second fabric (6), wherein the tubular item is configured for being manipulated so as to be at least partially turned over itself, by folding it in the turning position so that the second fabric overlaps the first fabric in order to obtain a double fabric item; - defining at least one first area (10) of the first fabric, delimited by a needle section and by a number of successive courses of the area, and having a desired shape; - defining at least one first counter-area (20) of the second fabric, delimited by a needle section and by a number of successive courses of the area, in which the first counter-area has a respective shape; - producing intarsia knitted fabric so as to manufacture the tubular knitted item according to the programming step; wherein the first area (10) is manufactured according to a first knitted structure and the first counter-area (20) is manufactured according to a second knitted structure.

The invention relates to a circular knitting machine for multicoloured plush. A plush sinker (113) is provided with at least two planes (90, 91) for kinking loop threads of different loop length. The knocking-over sinker (112) has a bill comprising at least two webs (96, 97) for restretching pile loops of different loop length. Plush knitted goods having plush loops of different heights and different colours can be produced by means of said circular knitting machine. Knitted goods being combined of epinglé and velour can thus be produced by shearing the longer plush loops.

The present invention relates to improved pile fabrics containing courses in which at least two pile forming yarns are meshed across a complete course together cooperatively in various fabric constructions, and respectively into a ground fabric, and forming pile loops one another alternatively between succeeding wales or areas. The fabric is manufactured according to a process in which needles are moved into a feeding position in which they remain, meanwhile in at least two succeeding sections, alternatively, pile elements are selected and raised and after the feeding of a pile yarn are retracted to an intermediate position. The pile yarns are controlled separately from one another and are unaffected in their movement to the loop-forming and meshing action. The manufacturing is realized on circular knitting machinery having a plurality of knitting sections of a type having at least two cooperative beds adapted for movable disposition therein of respective circles of knitting needles and arranged for respective movement of knitting needles transversely of and between a circle of pile elements arranged in the other bed for respective movement of the pile elements each having a pile yarn engaging hook. The pile loops can be severed according to an arrangement provided for in the knitting machine.
