Abstract:
Apparatus for producing pattern tufted goods, such as pattern tufted carpet, produces cut and loop pattern carpet using independent yarn colored pattern and cutting pattern process controllers, colored pattern carpet having differential pile heights, and colored pattern carpet with tight or loose tufts. In addition, an apparatus for making color patterned tufted carpet has a yarn cutting system which more reliably cuts yarn when cut tufts are desired.
Abstract:
A multi-cylinder module (90) has a common block within which the cylinders are formed and having a piston (95) disposed within each cylinder and an output rod (94) connected to each piston. Pressurized air acts on the piston against the bias of a corresponding spring to drive the respective rod outwardly from the module. Each rod has a coupling member which is coupled to the gate (46) of a hook (44) of a tufting machine having gated hooks for forming both loop and cut pile. The modules (90) are mounted directly to the hook bar of the tufting machine and require no additional linkages between the coupling and the gate with the inherent lost motion and other inefficiencies associated with such additional linkages.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The invention concerns a tufting machine having at least one needlebar, loopers, hooks to pick up yarn delivered through the needles of the needlebar, knives to cut yarn loops and driving means, with the needle action and/or the looper action and/or the hook action, and/or the knife action being a non-simple harmonic motion. In said machine the needles, the hooks, the knives and the loopers have separate drive systems. So the motion of the needles, the hooks, the knives and the loopers can be such that first of all the pickup of the yarn or the cutting of the yarn loop can be improved. When the drive system is computer controlled more accurate machine set up can be achieved. Moreover different set ups can be achieved automatically for different products. Patterning effects are also possible.
Abstract:
A tufting machine for selectively forming tufts of yarns, including different color or type yarns, for forming patterned tufted articles such as carpets. A series of needles are reciprocated into and out of a backing material being fed through the tufting machine and are engaged by a series of gauge parts so as to pick-up loops of yarns from the needles. The gauge parts will be selectively controlled by actuators to extend or retract the gauge parts to positions or elevations sufficient to pick-up or not pick-up loops of yarns from the needles. The feeding of the yarns to the needles further can be controlled in conjunction with the movement of the gauge parts, while the backing feed can also be controlled, to enable formation of tufts of yams at an increased rate over the pattern stitch rate for the pattern of the tufted article being formed.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A hook (5) for a tufting machine to provide an enhanced J-cut effect. The hook comprises a shank portion (12) via which the hook is connected to the tufting machine, in use, and a working portion (4) extending from the shank portion. The working portion (4) comprises a cutting edge (6) on one side of a lower face of the working portion. A J-cut forming portion is formed at the working portion (4), in that the working portion in the region above the cutting edge has a greater thickness than the thickness of the shank portion (12).
Abstract:
Apparatus for feeding yarn from a yarn supply to a reciprocating needle of a multi-color pattern carpet tufting apparatus comprises a yarn pullback mechanism mechanically linked to a yarn feeder such that when the yarn feeder moves out of engagement with a driven roller, the yarn pullback mechanism draws the yarn back from the reciprocating needle. When the yarn feeder moves back into engagement with the driven roller, the yarn pullback mechanism shortens the path between the yarn feeder and the reciprocating needle.
