    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing a lignin composition, which process comprises: - providing a lignin slurry comprising water and a water miscible organic solvent; - subjecting the lignin slurry to extraction at an extraction temperature of less than 100°C for an extraction time of at least 1 minute to provide an extracted slurry; - removing liquid from the extracted slurry to provide an extracted lignin; and - suspending the extracted lignin in a polar organic solvent to provide a lignin composition having a dry matter content of at least 30% by weight. The present invention also relates to a lignin composition comprising hardwood Kraft lignin and a polar organic solvent, which composition has a dry matter content of at least 30% by weight. The present invention also relates to use of the lignin composition as a fuel.

    Abstract: The specification relates to a method and a system for adjusting pH of green liquor dregs. The method comprises contacting a slurry containing green liquor dregs (100, 200, 300, 400, 500) with flue gas (101, 201, 301, 401, 501). The system comprises a recovery boiler (105) configured to burn black liquor to produce smelt, a smelt dissolving tank (107) configured to dissolve the smelt to produce green liquor comprising green liquor dregs, and a green liquor clarifier/filter (103) and/or a dregs filter (104) configured to separate a slurry containing green liquor dregs (100, 200, 300, 400, 500) from the green liquor.     Abstract: The present invention related to a method to optimise the chemical balance at a sulfate pulp mill, which produces at least pulp bleached with chlorine dioxide and has a chlorine dioxide plant using at least chlorate, methanol and sulfuric acid for making chlorine dioxide. The method comprises at least the following steps: a), gases from the mill's concentrated non-condensable gas system are incinerated in order to form a gas containing sulfur dioxide, which is treated to produce concentrated sulfuric acid, and b), raw methanol from the mill processes is purified to produce methanol, and c), side streams containing sodium compounds and/or sulfur compounds produced by mill processes are used as make-up chemicals, wherein the production of chlorine dioxide uses the sulfuric acid produced in step a) and methanol purified in step b), with a sulfuric acid concentration of 94-99%, preferably 95-98%, and using in step c) sesquisulfate or sodium sulfate produced during the production of chlorine dioxide.

    Abstract: Methods for production of yeast biomass and removal of sugar from red liquor by propagating yeast on sugars in red liquor byproduct of the sulfite pulping process are disclosed. Yeast are propagated using the sugars in red liquor as a carbon source, thereby consuming the sugars and producing a composition of lignosulfonates that has a reduced sugar content. Disclosed methods allow for separation of sugars from lignosulfonates in red liquor without costly ultrafiltration or nanofiltration processes and also produce valuable yeast biomass.
