Abstract: One variation of a system includes: a frame; a sensor module; and a controller. The frame includes: a base structure that locates a display defining a front face of a device; and a lateral frame structure extending along and adjacent an edge of the display and supported on a side of the base structure. The base structure and the lateral frame structure cooperate to define a channel arranged behind the display and extending longitudinally between the lateral frame structure and the side of the base structure. The sensor module is arranged in the channel and includes: a substrate; and a linear array of sensors arranged on the substrate and outputting sense signals representing local deflections of the lateral frame structure. The controller detects locations and force magnitudes of side inputs on the device, proximal the edge of the display, based on sense signals output by the linear array of sensors.

Abstract: A vehicle may have devices such as knobs, sliders, touch sensors, cameras, and other devices for gathering user input, capturing images, and gathering other information. Control circuitry in the vehicle may display an interactive route map on a display in the vehicle body. The route map may have a route line depicting a route between a starting point and an ending point for a journey. The control circuitry may move a vehicle icon in forward and reverse along the route line in response to the user input to select a vehicle icon location. The control circuitry may display media that corresponds to the selected vehicle icon location. The media may include an image captured by the camera, media retrieved from remote databases, and/or other content associated with the location of the vehicle icon.

Abstract: A method of operating a sensing element to sense a parameter, the sensing element comprising a sense TFT having a gate connection connected to a sensing electrode, the method comprising: providing a reference current (Ibias) through the sense TFT; providing a reference voltage (Vbias) at the gate connection to obtain a reference sample voltage (Vcap) from a source connection of the sense TFT; providing, at the gate connection, an indicator voltage (Vgate) dependent upon the parameter to be sensed whilst the reference current (Ibias) continues to be provided through the sense TFT to obtain a sensing voltage from the source connection of the sense TFT; and sensing the parameter based on the difference between the sensing voltage (Vs) and the reference sample voltage (Vcap).

Abstract: Provided is a system that includes: a plurality of touch sensors sharing a signal medium, each touch sensor in the plurality being configured to output set of frequencies on the signal medium responsive to being touched, each touch sensor in the plurality being configured to output a different set of frequencies; an analog to digital converter electrically coupled to the signal medium and configured to receive the sets of frequencies from the touch sensors and convert the sets of frequencies to digital representations of the sets of frequencies in the time domain; a processor communicatively coupled to the analog to digital converter and configured to execute a fast Fourier transform of the digital representations from the time domain into digital representations in the frequency domain; and an address decoder operative to transform the digital representations in the frequency domain into identifiers of touch sensors among the plurality of touch sensors.

Abstract: A device (15) including a piezoelectric sensor (16). The piezoelectric sensor (16) includes a layer of piezoelectric material (7) disposed between a number of sensing electrodes (4, 12, 13) and at least one counter electrode (3). The device (15) also includes a controller (17) connected to the piezoelectric sensor (16). The sensing electrodes (4, 12, 13) are arranged to form one or more active regions (19). Each active region (19) includes one or more primary sensing electrodes (4, 12) and one or more secondary sensing electrodes (4, 13). The secondary sensing electrodes (4, 13) are separated from the primary sensing electrodes (4, 12) by a perimeter (14). The controller (17) is configured, for each active region (19), to monitor primary piezoelectric charges induced on each primary sensing electrode (4, 12) and to monitor secondary piezoelectric charges induced on each secondary sensing electrode (4, 13). The controller (17) is also configured, in response to detecting one or more primary and/or secondary piezoelectric charges, to determine whether a corresponding applied force has a centroid within the perimeter (14) based on comparing the primary piezoelectric charges to the secondary piezoelectric charges.
