Abstract: Computing devices and methods for determining opening and closing of touch sensitive interfaces are disclosed. In one example, a computing device comprises a touch screen display on a first substrate that is rotatably coupled to a second substrate that includes a trackpad. A trackpad identification signal transmitted by the trackpad is received at the touch screen display, and a touch screen identification signal transmitted by the touch screen is received at the trackpad. If the trackpad identification signal matches a trackpad identification key and the touch screen identification signal matches a touch screen identification key, then an energy level of one or both signals is compared to an energy level threshold. Based at least in part on the comparison of the energy level to the threshold, a power state transition is initiated.

Abstract: A foldable touch screen display device with a flexible display including segments that can be folded from a compact state to an expanded state, and including a hinge mechanism having plate stops is described. The form factor of the compact state is comparable to a handheld phone. The form factor of the expanded state is comparable to a larger phone or tablet computer. Both states may include an integrated speaker and microphone. The hinge mechanism's plate stops provide a support structure below and in between the device's flexible display segments, preventing folding beyond a flat open state to an obtuse angle. The device can include sensors to indicate the state of configuration and mechanisms for alignment, locking, and further structural support. A module attached to at least one segment of the flexible display or rigid display may contain all processing and memory, and a communications system usable in any state.

Abstract: The disclosed techniques improve user engagement and promote efficient use of computing resources by providing dynamically controlled aspect ratios for communication session renderings based on a physical orientation of a device. In some configurations, a system can select a first aspect ratio for individual video streams of a communication session when a device is in a first orientation, e.g., a portrait orientation. In addition, the system can select a second aspect ratio for the individual video streams when the device is in a second orientation, e.g., a landscape orientation. In some configurations, the first aspect ratio can be greater than the second aspect ratio, or the aspect ratios can be selected based on a target aspect ratio, which can be adjusted over time. By dynamically selecting an aspect ratio for individual stream renderings, screen space of a device can be optimized while the device is held in various physical orientations.

Abstract: Examples are disclosed relating to providing haptic feedback in a stylus while the stylus crosses a gap between two displays. In one example, a method comprises detecting one or more haptic triggering criteria, and at least on condition of detecting the one or more haptic triggering criteria, actuating the haptic feedback component to produce haptic output. A width of the gap between the displays is determined, and a crossing time for a tip of the stylus to cross the gap is calculated using the width of the gap, a stylus velocity, and a stylus direction. At a first time after actuating the haptic feedback component, the method determines that the one or more haptic triggering criteria are not detected. At least on condition of determining that the one or more haptic triggering criteria are not detected, the method continues to actuate the haptic feedback component for the crossing time.

Abstract: A self-sanitizing electronic device (1), such as comprising a waveguide structure (3) and a radiation source (4) configured to emit electromagnetic radiation (R) within an ultraviolet spectrum into the waveguide structure (3). The waveguide structure (3) is superimposed onto a device surface (2a) and comprises a waveguide layer (5) having a first interface surface (5a) facing surrounding air and a second interface surface (5b) facing the device surface (2a). The waveguide layer (5) is configured to allow the electromagnetic radiation (R) to propagate within the waveguide layer (5) and an evanescent field (F) generated by the electromagnetic radiation (R) to penetrate the first interface surface (5a) and travel into the air as it propagates within the waveguide layer (5). The evanescent field (F) sanitizes the first interface surface (5a) by destroying e.g. virus and bacteria. The electronic device is sanitized continuously, and not at all dependent on manual labor or other, external devices.

Abstract: An electronic device display may have pixels formed from crystalline semiconductor light-emitting diode dies, organic light-emitting diodes or other pixel structures. The pixels may be formed in a display panel having a single substrate or an array of display panel tiles (24). The display panel has inwardly facing display panel contacts (56') that mate with corresponding outwardly facing interconnect substrate contacts (54) on an interconnect substrate (44). The interconnect substrate may have areas with compound curvature that are overlapped by the display panel. To enhance flexibility of the interconnect substrate, the interconnect substrate may have flexibility enhancement openings and/or may be formed from a material with a low elastic modulus such as silicone or other elastomeric material.

Abstract: Computing devices and methods for producing vibrations in computing devices are disclosed. In one example, a computing device comprises a chassis that includes a trackpad comprising a printed circuit board. A haptic actuator assembly comprises at least one conductive coil formed on or affixed to the printed circuit board, and at least one magnet rigidly affixed to the chassis. The magnet is spaced from and not mechanically coupled to the at least one conductive coil. A memory stores instructions executable by a processor to receive a haptic event requests, determine that the trackpad is not in use, and at least on condition of receiving the haptic event request and determining that the trackpad is not in use, cause a driver signal to be sent to the conductive coil(s) to cause the at least one magnet to produce user-perceptible vibrations in the chassis beyond the trackpad.
