A format for the recording of trick play signals is proposed in which trick play segments comprising sync blocks of information of a trick play signal are recorded in the tracks. At least first and second trick play signals are recorded on the record carrier. The first trick play signal is meant for reproduction in a reproduction apparatus at a reproduction speed n1 times the recording speed with which the trick play signals are recorded on the record carrier. The second trick play signal is meant for reproduction in the said reproduction apparatus at a reproduction speed -n1 times the recording speed. Both trick play signals are recorded in the tracks such that upon reproduction at said speed n1 times the recording speed, m1 sync blocks of information of the first trick play signal and that, upon reproduction at said speed -n1 times the recording speed, m1 sync blocks of the second trick play signal are read from the record carrier during one revolution of the head drum in the reproduction apparatus. Further, a direction identifier is stored in the trick play sync blocks, indicating whether a trick play sync block is meant for a specific trick play speed in the forward or in the reverse direction.

Digital video signals of one frame are recorded as oblique tracks on a magnetic tape by four recording heads. One frame is recorded as six segments (12 tracks). Adjacent tracks have inverse azimuths. On each track of an even segment, an auxiliary data sync block is recorded at the position of a trailing end of a video sector v1. On each track of an odd segment, an auxiliary data sync block is recorded at the position of a leading end of the video sector v1. Since the auxiliary data sync blocks are recorded at distant positions on the tape, failure to read the auxiliary data at all due to a flaw in the longitudinal direction of the tape may be prevented.

Method for delivering messages, where at least one message is first recorded on the storage member of a sound recorder and reproducer, whereafter the message is replayed by means of the reproducer each time as a detection pulse is received from the detector placed in the vicinity of a predetermined location and the sound reproducer is switched on on the basis of the said detection pulse and the message recorded on the storage member is replayed and made audible through a loudspeaker. The invention is characterized in that the recording stage, immediately before each message (S1, S2, S3), on the storage member (N) there is recorded a short sound signal (A, B, C) and that after the message there is arranged a pause (T1, T2, T3) of a defined duration and that at the replay stage, when a detection pulse is received from the detector, the sound reproducer is switched on and the message replay is started, the volume of the signal recorded on the storage member is supervised and the sound reproducer is switched off immediately after the short sound signal (A, B, C) is detected after the said pause (T1, T2, T3), in which case the apparatus is ready to replay the message (S1, S2, S3) immediately after another detection pulse is received from the detector, whereafter the above described stages for replaying the message are repeated. The invention also relates to an apparatus for realizing the method.

The present invention is related to head switching control apparatus for use in a magnetic tape recorder. Based on the technology, which is widely used for head switching control in analogue tape recorders and in particular in VHS video cassette recorders the present invention suggest a head switching control apparatus allowing a higher precision as it is required for digital tapes. The invention is applicable e.g. for tapes which are recorded according to the D-VHS standard. According to the invention the higher precision is achieved by adjusting the head switching pulse relative to the beginning of a certain data section of the digital data. In particular, the inventive apparatus comprises a digital data processing circuit for discriminating the beginning of said data section. A timer is started by the head-switching signal and stopped by the beginning of the data section to determine the time duration a head-switching signal precedes the beginning of the data section. The determined time duration is then used to calculate a second delay time. The second delay time allows achieving the required head switching precision for digital tapes.
