    Abstract: 본 발명은 특히 불필요한 출력감발을 조절봉 소재 변경으로 억제시킴과 동시에 코발트-60을 생산할 수 있는 핵연료 절감 방법에 관한 것으로서, 제1 내지 제7 조절봉 군으로 이루어지는 7개의 조절봉 군을 각각 핵연료집합체의 서로 다른 부위에 인입 또는 인출 가능하게 설치하되, 제7 조절봉 군은 제7 조절봉 군을 이루는 조절봉들의 반응도 값을 나머지 조절봉 군을 이루는 조절봉들의 반응도 값 보다 작게 제작하는 제1단계; 및, 제1 내지 제7 조절봉 군을 모두 핵연료집합체에서 인출시킬 때, 제7 조절봉 군을 가장 마지막으로 인출시키는 제2단계;로 이루어짐으로써, 제7 조절봉 군의 인출 과정에서 액체영역제어계통(LZC, Liquid Zone Control system)의 수위가 자동으로 조절봉 인입조건 수위 이상으로 상승됨으로 인한 제7 조절봉 군의 자동 재인입 현상을 방지하여, 제7 조절봉 군의 자동 재인입으로 인한 불필요한 연소도 억제 현상을 해소시킴으로써, 연소도를 상승시켜 소요되는 핵연료를 대폭 절감시킬 수 있는 중수로의 핵연료 절감 방법을 제공하고자 한다.

    Abstract: A closed-vessel molten salt reactor (cvMSR) is described herein. A cvMSR may comprise a suspended container, such as a metallic container, within a trench surrounded by a concrete enclosure and a concrete cover having a number of channels. The suspended container may be hollow and a solution of fissile materials and salt materials may be provided within the suspended container. The solution may be capable of undergoing a chain reaction nuclear fission process once a threshold temperature is reached. Heat generated by the solution may heat a fluid surrounding the suspended container. The heated fluid may be transported, through the number of channels of the concrete cover, to an external location where the heated fluid may be used in distributing heat and/or electricity generation.

    Abstract: A high temperature reactor (HTR) (100) is described. The HTR (100) comprises a first set of fuel columns (110), including a first fuel column 110A, comprising fissile fuel (120). The HTR (100) comprises a second set of burnable poison rods (130), including a first burnable poison rod (130A). The HTR (100) comprises a moveable moderator (140). The HTR (100) comprises a passageway (150) arranged to receive the moderator (140) therein. The HTR (100) comprises a first reflector (160) arranged to surround the first set of fuel columns (110), the second set of burnable poison rods (130) and the passageway (150). The HTR 100 is arrangeable in a first configuration C1, wherein the moderator (140) is received in the passageway (150) in a first position P1 thereby providing a first moderation M1 of neutrons produced by the fissile fuel (120). The HTR (100) is arrangeable in a second configuration C2, wherein the moderator (140) is received in the passageway (150) in a second position P2 thereby providing a second moderation M2 of the neutrons produced by the fissile fuel (120), whereby a change in criticality, in use, due to depletion of the fissile fuel and/or of the burnable poison rods (130) is attenuated.

    Abstract: A nuclear reactor system includes a nuclear reactor core disposed in a pressure vessel. Nuclear reactor system further includes control drums disposed longitudinally within the pressure vessel and laterally surrounding fuel elements and at least one moderator element of the nuclear reactor core to control reactivity. Each of the control drums includes a reflector material and an absorber material. Nuclear reactor system further includes a control drum controller with a counterweight to impart a reverse torque on the control drum. Control drum controller includes a driven pulley coupled to the counterweight, a tension member coupled to the driven pulley to rotatably control the driven pulley and apply torque to the driven pulley, and an actuator to apply a tension force to the tension member. The actuator counteracts the reverse torque with the applied tension force, and the tension member applies the torque in response to the tension force.

    Abstract: A modular nuclear reactor system includes a lift-out, replaceable nuclear reactor core configured for replacement as a singular unit during a single lift-out event, such as rather than lifting and replacing individual fuel assemblies and/ or fuel elements.
