Abstract: A locking assembly secures a plurality of electrical isolation members so as to prevent unauthorised or inadvertent removal of the isolation members from electrical terminal components. The locking assembly comprises a support member fixed to a mounting rail along which the terminal components are arranged. A rod, secured by a screw to the support member, extends through apertures provided in the isolation members. A lockable device, for example a padlock, is arranged on the support member so as to prevent removal of the screw thereby preventing withdrawal of the rod from the locking assembly. Preferably, the assembly comprises two support members mounted at either end of the terminal components, the rod extending between each of the support members.

Abstract: An isolation device for preventing insertion of a contact member, such as a fuse element, comprises an insert member and an actuating member. A lock secures the insert and actuating members together. The insert member has a projection which, in use, extends into a recess vacated by the contact member. A passage is provided in the insert member for receiving the actuating member. Movement of the actuating member along the passage causes lateral expansion of the projection so as to locate the isolation device on the electrical component. At its leading end the projection has a catch which in an unexpanded state of the projection passes through an aperture in a contact provided on the electrical component. In a laterally expanded state of the projection, the catch is prevented from passing through the aperture and thereby prevents removal of the isolation device from the electrical component.

Abstract: An isolation device for an electrical terminal component of the type which has a movable contact member. The contact member is movable from an operative position, in which the contact member establishes an electrical connection between electrical contacts on the component, to an inoperative position, in which the contact member breaks the electrical connection. The isolation device comprises an isolation member having location means extending from a base to enable the member to be releasably attached to the terminal component. A recess is formed in the isolation member for receiving and retaining the contact member when in the inoperative position. The recess may be formed in the base or in a side wall of the isolation member. The isolation member is formed as a single moulding of plastics material.

Abstract: An isolation device for preventing insertion of a contact member, such as a fuse element, comprises an insert member and an actuating member. Abstract: A fuse for a high voltage/high current application, such as a hydro-electric vehicle ("HEV") application is provided. The fuse employs a variety of arc quenching features to handle a large amount of arcing energy that is generated when such fuse is opened due to a fuse opening event. In one embodiment, an insulative substrate, such as a melamine substrate, is metallized with a fuse element. The fuse element extends to multiple surfaces of the substrate. A fuse opening portion of the element is located so that the arcing energy is forced to travel along multiple insulative planes, increasing an impedance across the opening of the element and decreasing the likelihood of a sustained arc. Also, the substrate and element are disposed in a sealed housing, which is packed in one embodiment with an arc quenching material, such as sand.
