Abstract:
A method of categorizing a group of multimode optical fibers, the method including comparing an effective modal bandwidth of a first multimode optical fiber with a first threshold, the first multimode optical fiber being in a group of multimode optical fibers meeting a first OM-standard and the first threshold being an effective modal bandwidth of the first multimode optical fiber. The method further including categorizing the first multimode optical fiber as meeting OM functional requirements of a second OM-standard if the effective modal bandwidth of the first multimode optical fiber is equal to or above the first threshold, wherein the second OM-standard is higher than the first OM-standard.
Abstract:
An optical fiber configured to improve the pump conversion efficiency of an L-band fiber amplifier which uses the multimode pump source. By directly absorbing multimode light including 915 nm, an active fiber core region co-doped with both erbium and ytterbium can provide gain to the L-band signals via stimulated emission. The unwanted C-band amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) light generate from this active fiber core region can be absorbed by another active fiber core region doped with erbium, then provides additional gain to the L-band signals. Active regions and cladding can be configured to match a given spatial mode of the optical signal. Signal-pump combiners with end-coupling or side coupling can be used.

정현파로 세기 변조된 광학 펄스를 입력신호로 사용하는 광학적 시분할 다중화 방식 광전송 방법 및 장치가 제시된다. 본 발명에서 제안하는 정현파로 세기 변조된 광학 펄스를 입력신호로 사용하는 광학적 시분할 다중화 방식 광전송 장치는 하나의 정현파 전기신호, 제1 다치 레벨 전기신호 및 제2 다치 레벨 전기신호를 인가하여, 광학적 시분할 다중화된 다치 PAM 광신호를 생성하는 시분할 다중화 광송신기, 생성된 PAM 광신호를 광섬유를 통해 입력 받아 전기신호로 변환하는 광 검출기, 광 검출기로 검출된 전기 신호를 두 개의 신호로 역다중화하여 MIMO 이퀄라이저에 인가하는 시분할 역다중화기 및 MIMO 이퀄라이저로부터 역다중화된 두 개의 신호를 각각 입력 받아 각 심볼의 레벨을 결정하는 서로 다른 두 개의 판별 소자를 포함한다.

The embodiments of the invention provide an optical transmitter (11) for transmitting a vector of information symbols over an optical fiber transmission channel (13) made of a multi-core fiber, optical signals carrying said vector of information symbols propagating along the multicore fiber according to two or more cores, wherein the optical transmitter (11) comprises a precoder (87) configured to determine a precoding matrix depending on one or more fiber parameters associated with said multi-core fiber and to precode said vector of information symbols by multiplying the vector of information symbols by said precoding matrix.
Abstract:
A method and system are provided. The method includes converting, using a spatial mode converter, an input signal into a plurality of spatial modes and performing polarization multiplexing and mode multiplexing, using a polarization multiplexer and a mode multiplexer, respectively, on the input signal. The method further includes injecting the input signal into a fiber optic medium. The method additionally includes applying, using at least one spatial filter in each of a forward and a backward direction within the fiber optical medium, the plurality of spatial modes within the fiber optical medium to transmit the input signal and perform distributed fault sensing on the input signal simultaenously.
