There is provided a method of using a slab laser gain medium. The method comprises transmitting a light beam through the slab laser gain medium (101)on a first trajectory (105b) using a first mirror(109), wherein the first trajectory comprises a zigzag trajectory. The method further comprises redirecting the light beam through the slab laser gain medium (101) on a second trajectory (105d) using the first mirror (109). The slab laser gain medium may be a so-called "Innoslab" and with the help of two mirrors (107,109) multiple passes (105b-d) through the slab laser gain medium (101) are realized. Using zig-zag paths through the slab instead of straight paths the amplification for every pass is increased and the pump energy is more efficiently used.

Ein Verfahren zum Bilden einer Überwendlichnaht mit Hilfe einer Zick-Zack-Nähmaschine. Nach dem Bilden einer ersten Verschlingung (1)von Nadel-und Greiferfaden in einer ersten Überstichlage (I) der Nadelstange (22) wird der Nadelfaden (NF) gelockert und die Nadelstange (22) in eine zweite Überstichlage (11) bewegt, in der eine weitere Fadenverschlingung (2) erfolgt. Nach Bildung von mindestens einem Geradstich in der zweiten Überstichlage wird der Verbindungsfaden zwischen den beiden ersten Fadenverschlingungen unter Bildung einer Schleife (S) in die erste Überstichlage (I) ausgezogen, die Nadel (26) sticht in die Schleife (S) ein, worauf diese freigegeben wird. Die dadurch gebildete Naht ist eine feste Verbindungsnaht, durch die das Nähgut zwischen den Fadenverschlinggungen nicht zusammengezogen wird.

Das Verfahren wird auf einer Vorrichtung durchgeführt, die einen Übernähdorn enthält, dem zur Erzielung von zwei aufeinanderfolgenden Bewegungsphasen ein in der Pendelbewegungsbahn der Nadelstange (22) und ein in ihrer Axialbewegungsbahn für die erst Überstichlage (I) angeordneter Anlaufbügel (47 bzw. 48) zugeordnet ist und in dessen Bewegungsbahn ein Schleifenabstreifer (51) ragt.

Die Nadelstange steuert somit Ausziehen und Abwerfen des Verbindungsfadens zwischen den jeweils ersten beiden Fadenverschlingungen.

A surface acoustic wave (SAW) meander type delay line (FIG. 8) is provided by a plurality of multistrip reflecting track changers (82, 84, 86, 88, 89) on a piezoelectric substrate (80) for folding back a SAW propagation path (106, 108) in serpentine manner. The meander delay line is tapped by simple RF tap means comprising single lossless coupling strips (110, 112) in the track changers removing only that portion of the SAW signal actually tapped out and converted to RF, and directly coupling out such signal portion over the entire bandwidth of the track changer. The single strips are on the center line between the arms of respective U-shaped multistrip couplers (102, 104) of the track changers. The structure enables high impedance direct RF multitap bus connection facilitating RF bus summation of many taps without a plural switching network.

A pocket stitch is sewn on cut workpiece parts which are guided into operative association with a reciprocating needle which effects a straight stitch when it is reciprocated and also may be swung from side to side to effect a zig-zag stitching. The workpiece is guided so as to form at least one substantially U-shape straight stitch having spaced apart leg portions and the stitch is secured by guiding the workpiece to effect the formation of a barring stitch at the ends of each leg portion by causing the needle to form a zig-zag stitch at such location. The sewing machine for sewing the pocket cuts includes a needle bar which may be swung during the operation of the drive mechanism or the zig-zag control mechanism may be shifted to effect the formation of a straight stitch. A rotatable cam which is driven by the drive mechanism positions a clamping plate having a substantially U-shape slot which permits reciprocation of the needle through a workpiece carried thereon. The cam includes means for controlling the swinging of the needle to effect the zig-zag stitching and for controlling the straight stitching operation of the needle and it also has means for controlling the shifting of the workpiece to follow the outline. The device can also effect the formation of a double U-shaped stitch in which the U-shape portion is formed by two spaced apart straight stitches and a barring stitch is used at each end of the leg portions which is formed by a zig-zag stitch which is effected transversely to the straight stitches.
