In a wafer processing method, rough grinding using a first grinding stone is divided into first and second steps. In the first step, a wafer is processed into a concave shape at a first transfer rate with a reinforcing rib area slightly left. Thereafter, as primary rough grinding in the second step, the grinding stone is positioned slightly on the inner circumferential side and the wafer is further processed into the concave portion at a second transfer rate faster than the first transfer rate. Since the first transfer rate is suppressed to a rate not to cause a burst chipping, a burst chipping resulting from the second step fast in the processing rate to ensure productivity will occur at the stepped edge portion on the inside of the reinforcing rib area surface. Thus, the flatness of the reinforcing rib area can be ensured.

The invention relates to a method for regenerating an emission control system of an internal combustion engine, comprising a storage catalytic converter, a first exhaust gas probe being situated in an exhaust gas tract upstream of the storage catalytic converter and a second exhaust gas probe being situated in a second exhaust gas tract downstream of the storage catalytic converter. A first output signal of a first exhaust gas probe and a second output signal of a second exhaust gas probe are supplied to an engine management system and the storage catalytic converter is regenerated by being exposed to a reductant in a regeneration phase. If the quantity of reductant is controlled by the engine management system during the regeneration phase, whereby said system detects the quantity of reductant that is present downstream of the storage catalytic converter by means of the second output signal of the second exhaust gas probe situated downstream of said converter, the charging of reductant can be significantly reduced with respect to an optimised dosage. Excess consumption of fuel or reductant as a result of the regeneration of the storage catalytic converter is minimised. In addition, the method improves the emission values, thus significantly contributing to the maintenance of emission limits.

Processor resources are partitioned based on memory usage. A compiler determines the extent to which a process is memory-bound and accordingly divides the process into a number of threads. When a first thread encounters a prolonged instruction, the compiler inserts a conditional branch to a second thread. When the second thread encounters a prolonged instruction, a conditional branch to a third thread is executed. This continues until the last thread conditionally branches back to the first thread. An indirect segmented register file is used so that the “return to” and “branch to” logical registers within each thread are the same (e.g., R1 and R2) for each thread. These logical registers are mapped to hardware registers that store actual addresses. The indirect mapping is altered to bypass completed threads. When the last thread completes it may signal an external process.

A transformation-based record matching technique. The technique provides a flexible way to account for synonyms and more general forms of string equivalences when performing record matching by taking as explicit input user-defined transformation rules (such as, for example, the fact that “Robert” and “Bob” that are synonymous). The input string and user-defined transformation rules are used to generate a larger set of strings which are used when performing record matching. Both the input string and data elements in a database can be transformed using the user-defined transformation rules in order to generate a larger set of potential record matches. These potential record matches can then be subjected to a threshold test in order to determine one or more best matches. Additionally, signature-based similarity functions are used to improve the computational efficiency of the technique.

A semantic query may refer to a logical rule, where the rule is defined in terms of constituent expressions. In order to execute the semantic query efficiently, occurrences of the rule may be expanded by replacing the rule with its constituent expressions. Expansion may be performed repeatedly, until only grounded expressions remain. Expressions are grounded when they refer to tables or views that are represented in an underlying database. Once the rule has been reduced to grounded expressions, the semantic query processor may formulate a relational query in terms of the grounded expressions. If the relational query takes into account the various grounded expressions to which the rule reduces, then the portion of the semantic query that refers to the rule may be processed without an excessive number of round trips to the relational database.

To increase channel capacity, mobile phone carriers have deployed speech coders, such as Advanced MultiBand Excitation coding (AMBE), in networks to reduce the bit rate of each call. One undesired consequence of employing such speech coders is that the voice quality can be much worse as compared to higher bit-rate speech coders. A method or corresponding apparatus in an example embodiment of the present invention performs voice quality enhancement transparently within a network by detecting use of a coder applying rate reduction to a speech signal and known to have an adverse effect on a coded speech signal. Upon detection of the use of such coder, the coded speech signal is corrected based on components introduced into the coded speech signal due to the rate reduction. As a result of applying the voice quality enhancement, adverse effects of speech coders can be reduced, while maintaining high quality voice signals.

A robust and redundant status link is established by a first multi-channel optoelectronic device with a second multi-channel optoelectronic device in a multi-channel communication link. Transmitter bias currents are effectively modulated with a status link modulation signal representative of status data and subsequently modulated with primary data modulation signals. The resulting signals are transformed into optical signals and transmitted over the link as main communication links combined with a status link. At the second device, the optical signals are received and converted to electrical signals. The receipt of the optical signals creates multiple receiver bias currents, which may be monitored to detect the status link modulation signal. The second device may adjust various operating parameters in response to the information conveyed by the status link. For instance, devices can use status links to operate above nominal eye safety limits and/or to adjust transmit power to compensate for degradation effects.
