Within components such as high pressure turbine blades and aerofoils in a gas turbine engine it is important to provide cooling such that these components remain within acceptable operational parameters. Typically, film cooling as well as convective cooling is utilized. Film cooling requires holes from a feed passage from which the coolant is presented upon an external surface to develop the film. The holes themselves can create cooling through convective cooling effects. In order to maximize the convective cooling effect holes are created which have an indirect path about a direct line between an inlet and an outlet for the hole. By creating an indirect path in the form of a helix or spiral which in turn may have a variable cross sectional area from the inlet to the outlet control of coolant flow can be achieved. The inlet may have a bell mouth shape while the hole may have a slot or elliptical cross section to achieve greater diffusion of the coolant flow in order to create an improved exit blow rate for instant film development.

In addition to the pressure for swaging applied when swaging is performed, a pressure in the direction the same as the direction of the holding force exerted by a swaged portion is applied to a pressure receiving edge portion of a bearing holder by the pressure applied by a swaging roller. As a result, the elastic deformation in a circumferential wall portion that is not bent is advanced and the amount of elastic deformation of the bearing holder in the axial direction is reduced, so that it is possible to increase the difference in the amount of elastic deformation between the bearing holder and an outer race. Thus, the axial residual stress in the bearing holder is increased after the swaging is completed, as compared to the case of the ordinary swaging. Accordingly, it is possible to increase the holding force for holding the outer race.

Disclosed are various embodiments that perform confidence-based authentication of a user. A request from a user is obtained, where the request pertains to an operation on a network site. An authentication duration for the user is determined, based on a risk to the user of performing the operation. The operation requested by the user is performed in response to the determination that the current session associated with the user has expired.
User authentication is based on a home network user database that authenticates users to external service providers. A user logs into home network and starts accessing the external service by clicking on a link labelled for the external service provider. The link is directed to script at a home server. The script causes the home server to obtain details related to the user from a home network user database. The home server passes information related to the user to a foreign server associated with the service provider. Based on the passed information, the foreign server grants or denies authentication of the user to the external service. If granting, the foreign server provides the home server with access data and the home server forwards the access data to the user so that the user can initialize an authorized external service session using the access data.

In one aspect, a method includes receiving a first block of data chunks and a second block of data chunks. Data from the first block is specified to be stored at a first group of storage nodes, and data from the second block is specified to be stored at the second group of storage nodes. The first block of data chunks are stored at the first group of storage nodes and the second block of data chunks are stored at the second group of storage nodes. A block of code chunks is stored at the third group of storage nodes, wherein each code chunk is generated using an error-correcting code and corresponding data chunks from the first and second blocks.
