An operational transconductance amplifier used in conjunction with a multiple chip voltage feedback technique allows multiple strings of LEDs and current sinks to be efficiently powered by a simple feedback oriented voltage regulator within an appliance. A connected series of differential amplifiers or multiplexors are used to monitor the voltages between the connected LEDs and the current sinks, in order to progressively determine the lowest voltage. The operational transconductance amplifier compares this voltage to a reference voltage and injects or removes current from the feedback node of a voltage regulator, thereby altering the voltage present at the feedback node. This causes the voltage regulator to adjust its output, ensuring that the current sinks of the LED strings have adequate voltage with which to function, even as the LEDs have different forward voltages and the strings are asynchronously enabled and disabled.

After a developing step, a substrate is spun at high speeds without supplying a cleaning liquid to a surface of the substrate. This causes a large centrifugal force to act on a developer on a resist film. Consequently, the developer can be removed rapidly from the surface of the substrate. As a result, development can be stopped at an expected timing. Moreover, a circuit pattern having an expected dimension can be obtained. At this time, a dissolved product is also removable with the developer from the substrate. This can avoid failure in development caused by the dissolved product. Consequently, suitably maintained quality of negative development can be achieved with a reduced usage amount of the cleaning liquid.

These properties and composition are dependent on the health state of the bioparticle. Thus, measured optical properties can be used to differentiate normal (healthy) and abnormal (diseased) states of bioparticles derived from cells or tissues. The methods are illustrated with data obtained from a resonator with a gain medium. The invention also provides new methods for multiple measurements in a single device, analyzing and manipulating bioparticles that are much smaller than the wavelength of light, and provides a microfluidic transport chip to enable rapid single bioparticle analysis of large populations of bioparticles.

Described herein are a method, apparatus and computer readable medium for correcting data points acquired during well drilling. The data points are typically stored in a text file that is accessible by a processor. The processor applies one or more tags to the data points, with each of the tags corresponding to a characteristic of the data points. The processor then identifies one or more data faults in the data points using the one or more tags. Each data fault is indicative of inaccurate data in the data points; i.e., data that does not accurately represent the well as drilled. Following identification of the one or more data faults, the processor corrects one or more of the data faults. The resulting corrected, or cleaned, data is more indicative of the well as actually drilled than the uncorrected data. The processor can be connected to a computer readable medium that stores the statements and instructions that the processor executes.

The disclosed invention provides processes to synthesize DNA analogs that contain non-standard nucleotides, defined as those which form nucleobase pairs that fit standard Watson-Crick geometry, but are joined to their complements by hydrogen bonding patterns different from those that join standard A:T and G:C pairs. The disclosed process resembles “rolling circle amplification”, but uses primers that contain non-standard nucleotides, as well as 2′-deoxynucleotide triphosphates whose heterocyclic “nucleobases” are also non-standard. An example is provided that shows this process using 6-amino-5-nitro-3-(1′-beta-D-2′-deoxyribofuranosyl)-2(1H)-pyridone to implement the non-standard “small” donor-donor-acceptor (pyDDA) hydrogen bonding pattern, and 2-amino-8-(1′-beta-D-2′-deoxyribofuranosyl)-imidazo[1,2-a]-1,3,5-triazin-4(8H)-one to implement the “large” acceptor-acceptor-donor (puAAD) pattern.

The “instant evolution” system was initially developed in E. coli, primarily because of the ease with which this organism can be genetically manipulated. Because many of the functionally important regions of rRNA are conserved among bacteria, drug leads developed against conserved targets in the E. coli system may produce broad-spectrum anti-infectives. In order the develop a system to product narrow-spectrum anti-infectives, herein we disclose methods for identifying functional mutant P. aeruginosa ribosomes suitable as drug targets and for identifying drug candidates that do not bind to the human 16S rRNA.

The present invention deals with examination of the alterability of part, or whole, of the surfaces of beta sheet-based protein structures, focusing especially on enzymes. The alteration is done by supplanting/transplanting a part, or whole, of the surface of one protein onto the surface of a homologous protein of superimposable polypeptide backbone, by exploiting the structural features of beta sheets to alter only the regions of the surface involved in substrate/ligand binding and catalysis. The transplantation involves replacement of a selected set of non-contiguous residues constituting the surface regions desired to be altered in one enzyme/protein, by a set of non-contiguous residues located at analogous positions in the other enzyme/protein, in a manner that is likely to facilitate folding and function of the new protein formed by combining residues from both enzymes/proteins. The present invention also deals with using this surface engineering approach to selectively combine enzyme/protein characteristics from different domains of life that are not ordinarily combined by natural evolution, such as the creation of novel proteins that retains the bulk of the thermostable scaffold of a thermophile enzyme onto which the active surface of a mesophile homolog is transplanted, so as to create a thermo-stable protein with meso-active functional characteristics of pH and temperature of optimal function.

A process for converting carbonaceous materials or light hydrocarbon gases into products comprising predominately C5+ hydrocarbons. The process converts the feedstock into synthesis gas comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide and then uses the Fischer-Tropsch reaction to produce heavy hydrocarbons. A small excess of hydrogen is produced in the syngas generator or by water gas shift for use in product upgrading and for blending with Fischer-Tropsch tail gas for recycle back to syngas generation. A portion of the Fischer-Tropsch tail gas is used as fuel, thus purging combustible light gases and CO2 from the tail gas. Hydrogen rich purge gas is blended into the remaining tail gas resulting in a recycle stream that is returned to the syngas generator. The tail gas components are therefore efficiently used to produce more products.

Certain example embodiments relate to robust semi-transparent coatings that are suitable for use in a wide variety of display-on-demand mirror applications, and methods of making the same. In certain example embodiments, a coated article includes a coating supported by a glass substrate. A reflective metal-inclusive layer is formed, directly or indirectly, on the glass substrate. A silicon oxide inclusive layer is formed, directly or indirectly, on the reflective metallic layer. A titanium oxide inclusive layer is formed, directly or indirectly, on the silicon oxide inclusive layer. The metal-inclusive layer is formed so as to reflect incoming light away from the glass substrate such that substantially less incoming light would be reflected away from the glass substrate if lighting were provided on a side of the glass substrate opposite the coating than if no lighting were provided. The surface of the coated article need not necessarily be conductive. The metal-inclusive layer may be connected to a power source so as to heat it (e.g., for defogging purposes).
