A technique is disclosed for re-enabling transmission protection at enhanced stations while in the presence of high, enhanced modulation traffic conditions once protection has been disabled. Transmission protection allows enhanced modulation stations to co-exist with legacy modulation stations on a shared-communications channel. The problem being solved is when transmission protection is set to inactive and the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (i.e., enhanced modulation) traffic load is high, legacy traffic is likely to collide repeatedly with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing transmissions, with the result that the access point does not notice that a legacy station has become active again. Consequently, the access point does not activate transmission protection. The present invention addresses the problem by defining access point mechanisms that are capable of re-enabling transmission protection, once protection has been disabled, in the presence of high, enhanced modulation traffic conditions.

The invention relates to a method in a radio communications network for controlling a transmission power of a user equipment (12) transmitting data to a radio base station (10) in the radio communications network. The radio base station (10) retrieves a target signal to interference ratio value and measures a signal to interference ratio of a signal transmitted with a current transmission power from the user equipment (12). The radio base station (10) then determines a user equipment capability of power control of the user equipment (12). Furthermore, the radio base station (10) computes a power control command based on the measured signal to interference ratio, the retrieved target signal to interference ratio, and the user equipment capability of power control, which power control command indicates a power control adjustment step of the user equipment (12). The radio base station (10) then transmits the power control command to the user equipment (12). The user equipment (12) calculates a transmission power step based on said received power control command and adjusts the transmission power by applying the calculated transmission power step to the current transmission power.

A mobile station device transmits a random access preamble to a base station device. The base station device receives the random access preamble from the mobile station device and transmits, to the mobile station device, a Random Access-Radio Network Temporary Identity (RA-RNTI) which notifies a resource assignment of a random access response. The mobile station device further monitors downlink control channels while detecting both a Cell-Radio Network Temporary Identity (C-RNTI) and the RA-RNTI, in which a downlink control channel includes the RA-RNTI and a downlink control channel includes the C-RNTI which notifies a resource assignment of downlink data. Upon detection of the C-RNTI and the RA-RNTI in a same sub-frame, the mobile station receives both the random access response and the downlink data, or receives either the random access response or the downlink data.

A network sends to a user equipment UE downlink signaling indicating at least one frequency which is subject to special handling. In response the UE measures and reports neighbor cells operating on any of that/those frequencies without regard to a threshold signal strength of a serving cell which is configured for reporting neighbor cells. In more specific examples, if the neighbor cells operating on any of that/those frequencies is considered a first set of neighbor cells, then the network also sends a second set of neighbor cells in other downlink signaling. Measuring and reporting on the first set of neighbor cells is less frequent than for the second set of neighbor cells, when measurements of the second set is required. Measuring and reporting on the second set is dependent on measured signal strength of a serving cell being greater than the configured threshold signal strength of the serving cell.

Confusion resulting from assigning the same node identifier to multiple nodes is resolved through the use of confusion detection techniques and the use of unique identifiers for the nodes. In some aspects a network may provide a time gap (e.g., an asynchronous time gap) during which an access terminal may temporarily cease monitoring transmissions from a source node so that the access terminal may acquire a unique identifier from a target node. In some aspects an access terminal may commence handover operations at a target node after determining whether the access terminal is allowed to access the target node. In some aspects a source node may prepare several target nodes for potential handover in the event confusion is detected or likely. Here, the source node may send information relating to the preparation of the potential target nodes to the access terminal whereby the access terminal uses the handover preparation information to initiate a handover at that target node.

By adding stabilization and super-sampling to a digital pixel readout integrated circuit (ROIC), line of sight motion, that is usually costly and difficult to control, instead becomes an ally, doubling the effective FPA resolution in some systems. The base repartitioned digital pixel architecture supplements analog signal accumulation with off-pixel digital accumulation, greatly increasing dynamic range. Adding address mapping and increasing the ratio of memory locations to pixels, enables stabilization and resolution enhancement. Additional stabilization at sub-frame intervals limits the effect of latency and simplifies complex address mapping. Pixels gains are compensated in-ROIC, without requiring multipliers. A unique partitioning of functions between the ROIC and subsequent logic allows pixel biases and non-isomorphic sampling effects to be compensated off-ROIC, reducing overall system complexity and power.

The multiplexing portion multiplexes the shared control channel including control information necessary for demodulation of the shared data channel including a payload and the common pilot channel to be used by plural users in a frequency direction, and the shared data channel in a time direction with respect to the common pilot channel and the shared control channel. Even when the number of symbols composing a transmission time interval (TTI) is reduced, transmission efficiency of channels excluding the common pilot channel can be maintained by reducing insertion intervals of the common pilot channel accordingly.

In a telecommunications network including an optical line terminal (OLT) having optical subscriber units (OSUs) and an optical network unit (ONU) connected to the OLT, bandwidth allocation signals are periodically transmitted at a first period from the respective OSUs to the ONU, and an acknowledgement request signal is transmitted from at least one of the OSUs to the ONU at a second period having a value corresponding to the first period multiplied by a constant. If an ONU is registered in none of the OSUs, the first period is determined from reception intervals of the assignment signals, and a second period is calculated from the first period. Transmissive wavelength of a variable-wavelength (VW) filter in the ONU is periodically changed at a third period longer than the second period. In the OSU having transmitted the request signal, the unregistered ONU having received the request signal is registered.

An arrangement is provided for transporting information from a central information distribution center (CIDC) to locations where such information is intended. Upon receiving a request for narrowcast information to be delivered to a node associated with a head end, the CIDC selects the requested information, generates an optical signal encoded with the requested information using information channels dedicated to narrowcast information transport for the node, and sends the optical signal to the head end via an optical fiber. When the head end receives the optical signal, the narrowcast information transport channels dedicated to the node are translated into subcarriers acceptable to the node before the requested narrowcast information is forwarded to the node.

Timing parameters and an identity of a particular one of a number of cell groups are indicated in a signal transmitted in a cellular communication system having a radio frame in a physical layer, the radio frame comprising a number of time slots. In a known one of the time slots, a synchronization signal, S1, is transmitted that comprises a pair of sequences, Si%,Sj% (Si%≠Sj% arranged in a first ordering. In another known one of the time slots, a synchronization signal, S2 is transmitted that comprises the pair of sequences, Si%,Sj% arranged in a second ordering. The selected pair of sequences is uniquely identified with the particular cell group, and the first ordering of the sequences is used only for transmission in the known one of the time slots, and the second ordering of the sequences is used only for transmission in said another known one of the time slots.

A method and apparatus are provided for generating a code book for use in a CDMA system. The code book comprises of a plurality of vectors that are used to encode user data. An amplitude and polarity for each vector in the code book are selected to provide a reduced peak-to-average power ratio. The amplitude values can be selected to provide a reduced peak-to-average power ratio while maintaining a desired average energy per chip. The desired energy per chip can be based on the energy per chip of a CDMA system having a lower order spreading factor. Performance can be further improved by employing a first code book under a first signal-to-noise ratio condition and a second code book under a second signal-to-noise ratio condition.
