Conventional approaches to integrating waveguides within standard electronic processes typically involve using a dielectric layer, such as polysilicon, single-crystalline silicon, or silicon nitride, within the in-foundry process or depositing and patterning a dielectric layer in the backend as a post-foundry process. In the present approach, the back-end of the silicon handle is etched away after in-foundry processing to expose voids or trenches defined using standard in-foundry processing (e.g., complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) processing). Depositing dielectric material into a void or trench yields an optical waveguide integrated within the front-end of the wafer. For example, a shallow trench isolation (STI) layer formed in-foundry may serve as a high-resolution patterning waveguide template in a damascene process within the front end of a die or wafer. Filling the trench with a high-index dielectric material yields a waveguide that can guide visible and/or infrared light, depending on the waveguide's dimensions and refractive index contrast.

In a method or device for quantifying a leakage flow on a process control valve, an intact reference control valve is used to determine several reference flow values in advance by placing the reference control valve in several reference opening positions and measuring the respective reference flow value for each of the reference opening positions. When determining the respective reference flow value, a reference mechanical vibration acquired in an environment of the reference control valve is allocated to the respective reference flow value. An instantaneous mechanical vibration is determined on the process control valve when it is closed. The reference mechanical vibration coming closest to the determined instantaneous mechanical vibration is identified by an identity or approximation comparison. The leakage flow is equated with the reference flow value allocated to the identified reference mechanical vibration.

A valve seat has an inner passage and outer passages. A suction valve member has first passages and a first projection portion that guides, to the first passages, the fuel that flows from a pressure chamber at the time of valve opening. Therefore, an action force by the dynamic pressure applied to the suction valve member in the valve closing direction is reduced. An action force by the pressure of fuel that flows into pressure equalization grooves counterbalances the action force by the dynamic pressure of the suction valve member. Therefore, self-closing by the dynamic pressure can be inhibited, and the maximum output of an electromagnetic driving unit can be reduced. Fuel flow through a passage radially outside the suction valve member and the first passages. A fluid passage area is securable even when a lift amount of the suction valve member is small.

The outer periphery of the outer part of a substrate is a chamfer, and the outer part of the substrate is covered by a resin film layer. The thickness of the resin film layer at the chamfer is thicker than the locations radially further inwards from said chamfer. The surface of the resin film layer on the outer peripheral edge of the outer part is coplanar with the surface of the resin film layer further inwards. African swine fever virus (ASFV) is the etiological agent of a contagious and often lethal viral disease of domestic pigs. Control of ASF has been hampered by the unavailability of vaccines. Experimental vaccines have been derived from naturally occurring, cell culture-adapted, or genetically modified live attenuated ASFVs; however, these vaccines are only successful when protecting against homologous viruses. Among viral genes reported to be involved in virulence are components of the multi gene family (MGF). Here we report the construction of a recombinant ΔMGF virus derived from the highly virulent ASFV Georgia 2007 (ASFV-G) isolate. In vivo, ASFV-G ΔMGF administered intramuscularly (IM) to swine at either 102 or 104 HAD50 are completely attenuated; the inoculated animals are completely asymptomatic. Animals infected with 102 or 104 HAD50 of ASFV-G ΔMGF are protected against the presentation of clinical disease when challenged at 28 days post infection with the virulent parental strain Georgia 2007.

A portable tool transports and manipulates disposable trash bags with a pair of cooperating, displaceable jaws coupled to a rigid, peripheral frame. The substantially circular frame conceals the jaws when retracted within suitable peripheral grooves in which the jaws nest. A manual activator compressively attached to the frame midsection supports a pistol-grip handle and associated trigger mechanism. Each jaw has a pivoted hub portion with integral, projecting levers concealed within a clutch mechanism. A trigger deflects a cable to pivot the hub levers and deploy the jaws. When the jaws are displaced outwardly, upper edges of a bag may occupy the space between the jaws and the frame. When the trigger is released, the jaws retract in response to spring pressure, nesting within the frame peripheral grooves. The jaws thus securely grasp and captivate a bag, the upper periphery of which is sandwiched between the frame and the seated jaws.
