A method is described for reducing interferences in a wireless network, by: identifying cells which experience more interference than others; identifying a group of PRBs that their transmissions are subjected to more interference than other concurrent transmissions; identifying UEs associated with the group of PRBs, and determining whether the location of the UEs is at the cells' edges; selecting a pair of UEs where one member is located at a first cell's edge and the other is located either (i) at a second cell, not included within a neighbors' list of the first cell, or (ii) at the core or remote edge of a second cell. In case (i), the second cell is introduced to the first cell neighbors' list, and in case (ii) the other UE is falsely defined as a UE located at the near second cell's edge. Then, ICIC procedure is invoked for that pair of UEs.

A photonic microwave mixing apparatus and method thereof are disclosed. An optical input carrying a frequency-to-be-converted microwave signal is injected into a photonic microwave mixing module of the photonic microwave mixing apparatus, wherein the photonic microwave mixing module includes a microwave mixing laser. The optical power and carrier frequency of the optical input are adjusted so as to place the microwave mixing laser in period-one nonlinear dynamics, and, at the same time, to achieve frequency-unlocking between the oscillation sidebands of the period-one nonlinear dynamics and the modulation sidebands of the optical input. Under such operation, the microwave mixing laser emits a nonlinear wave-mixing optical signal. Properly selecting the frequency components of the nonlinear wave-mixing optical signal through an optical frequency component selector generates an optical output carrying a frequency-converted microwave signal, therefore achieving microwave frequency conversion.

A request to register a function of the application module with a system manager may be received. The request may describe one or more inputs to the function, one or more outputs of the function that are used to generate a beam plan for a satellite, and one or more capabilities that the satellite must have for the function to be used. It may be determined whether one or more capabilities of the satellite satisfy the described one or more capabilities that the satellite must have for the function to be used. In response to determining satisfaction, an indication that the function of the application is available may be provided to a client. A request may be received from the client to generate the beam plan for the satellite using the function. The beam plan for the satellite may be obtained using the one or more outputs of the function.

A system and method of improving communications is provided. A gateway is communicatively coupled to an end terminal through an unmanned air vehicle (UAV), wherein a first link communicatively couples the gateway to the UAV, and a second link communicatively couples the UAV to the end terminal. At least one of the gateway and the UAV is configured to determine a signal quality on at least the first link between the gateway and the UAV in a first direction. If the signal quality exceeds a predetermined threshold, a received packet is encoded at the gateway for processing by the end terminal. The packet is further tagged with an indicator that the packet should bypass forward error correction (FEC) at the UAV.
