Each data block is processed in parallel to compute: (i) a value (F) indicating whether every data segment value meets the class definition; (ii) a value (L) indicating a number of consecutive data segment values meeting the class definition starting from the left; (iii) a value (M) indicating a maximum number of consecutive data segment values meeting the class definition; and (iv) a value (R) indicating a number of consecutive data segment values meeting the class definition starting from the right. Corresponding values for each data block are then aggregated to determine a maximum number of consecutive data segment values meeting the class definition for the entire data stream.

Identification of inheritance-by-descent haplotype matches between individuals is described. A set of tables including word match, haplotypes and segment match tables are populated. DNA samples are received and stored. A word identification module extracts haplotype values from each sample. The word match table is indexed according to the unique combination of position and haplotype. Each column represents a different sample, and each cell indicates whether that sample includes that haplotype at that position. The haplotypes table includes the raw haplotype data for each sample. The segment match table is indexed by sample identifier, and columns represent other samples. Each cell is populated to indicate for each identified sample pair which position range(s) include matching haplotypes for both samples. The tables are persistently stored in databases of the matching system. As new sample data is received, each table is updated to include the newly received samples, and additional matching takes place.

One embodiment of the present invention includes techniques to support demand paging across a processing unit. Before a host unit transmits a command to an engine that does not tolerate page faults, the host unit ensures that the virtual memory addresses associated with the command are appropriately mapped to physical memory addresses. In particular, if the virtual memory addresses are not appropriately mapped, then the processing unit performs actions to map the virtual memory address to appropriate locations in physical memory. Further, the processing unit ensures that the access permissions required for successful execution of the command are established. Because the virtual memory address mappings associated with the command are valid when the engine receives the command, the engine does not encounter page faults upon executing the command. Consequently, in contrast to prior-art techniques, the engine supports demand paging regardless of whether the engine is involved in remedying page faults.

An improved transmission system that utilizes a shared buffer accessible by multiple threads, processes, or other discrete systems of different producing speeds is disclosed which limits transmission bottlenecks which occur when producers write data at different speeds. The system reserves portions of the shared buffer for each of the different producers, and allows the producers to write to the shared buffer asynchronously—even if the shared buffer is read from serially. This allows a fast producer to write its data to the shared buffer without needing to wait “in line” for slower producers.

Systems and methods for using host command data buffers as extended memory device volatile memory are disclosed. NVM Express implements a paired submission queue and completion queue mechanism, with host software on the host device placing commands into the submission queue. A data-serialization system initially uses a recursive serialization algorithm to serialize a hierarchy of nested data objects by translating those objects into a serial stream of data. The system determines that a stack-overflow error is likely to occur whenever the number of objects serialized by the system exceeds a threshold value, or whenever the stack has reached an unacceptable level of utilization. When the system determines that a stack-overflow error is likely or if the system detects that a stack-overflow error will definitely occur if another object is serialized, the system either transfers control to a nonrecursive algorithm that does not require a stack data structure or reduces stack utilization by transferring contents of the stack to a variable-size queue-like data structure.

Presented is an optical coherence tomography system and method to increase imaging depth of optical coherence tomography (OCT) by selective amplification. In a swept-source OCT system with periodically linear wavenumber-vs-time characteristic, the signal in principle is summation of various sinusoidal signals with different frequencies. At greater depth inside the analyzed object, the reflectivity information is generally weak due absorption and scattering. An analog or digital electronic circuit selectively filters and amplifies frequencies above some threshold, possibly up to another threshold. In this way, even small signals for relatively larger depths become detectable.

Employing a set of open gears in a bicycle drivetrain allows disengaging the connection between the crank arms and the driven wheel. When the fold axis passes approximately through the mesh plane between the aforementioned gears, and said axis is offset from the center plane of the gears in the direction of the fold by at least one-half the gear width, by design even a small angular displacement around the fold axis opens instantly producing a gap between the gears that increases as the fold proceeds, thus breaking and disengaging the connection between the crank arms and driven wheel, thus leaving the displacement of the fold to complete its angular cycle without regard or interference from the newly separated drivetrain. In its folded configuration, the bicycle can roll backwards, forwards, and spin or pirouette on its own axis.
