An aspect of the present invention is a voltage controlled oscillator that provides multi octave band tenability. The oscillator preferably includes one or more multi planar resonators which allow it to be implemented in integrated circuit form. Oscillators implemented in accordance with the aspect of the present invention provide as wide a tuning range as the YIG based resonators but are much more compact and efficient. Therefore, they are amenable to implementation in integrated circuits and suited for adaptation in third and future generation wireless devices.

The present invention relates to passive reflection mixers including single, double, and triple balanced mixers that employ one or more field effect transistors (FETs). In one aspect, the mixer comprises a first input port for receiving a first input signal from a local oscillator, a second port for connecting to a radio frequency source or sink and a third port for connecting to a intermediate frequency source or sink. The mixer may also comprise switching circuitry coupled to the first input through a coupling element such that the local oscillator is isolated from the second and third ports. Further still, the switching circuit may comprise a pair of field effect transistors, each gate terminal being connected to the coupling element. In that regard, the coupling element may comprise a 0/180 degree phase splitter. Further in accordance with this aspect, each gate terminal is coupled to the coupling element through pulse shaping circuitry. The pulse shaping circuitry may, for example comprise a pair of parallel L-C circuit networks, each L-C network being connected to each transistor gate.
