The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a Magnolia flower extract, a fraction thereof or the compound represented by formula 1 or formula 2 below as an active ingredient. Particularly, fargesin isolated from the said Magnolia flower extract and the fraction thereof can promote not only the growth of dental root but also the growth of periodontal tissue by forming alveolar bone in around teeth to inhibit periodontitis. Therefore, not only the fargesin but also the Magnolia flower extract comprising fargesin and the fraction thereof can be effectively used as an active ingredient for a pharmaceutical composition for promoting the growth of dental root and periodontal tissue and for preventing and treating periodontitis.

An objective of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a nepodin-containing extract containing a high concentration of nepodin with less contaminants present therein thereby being able to be readily carried out on an industrial scale, when compared to the conventional techniques. The objective is solved by A method for producing a nepodin-containing Rumex plant extract, the method comprising the following steps (1) to (5): (1) a step of subjecting a Rumex plant to an extraction treatment using a nepodin-dissolving solvent to obtain a crude Rumex plant extract; (2) a step of subjecting the crude Rumex plant extract to a water-adding treatment and/or concentration treatment to obtain a solid crude Rumex plant extract; (3) a step of subjecting the solid crude Rumex plant extract to a weak alkali treatment to obtain a weak alkali insoluble product; (4) a step of subjecting the weak alkali insoluble product to a strong alkali treatment to obtain a strong alkali soluble product; and (5) a step of subjecting the strong alkali soluble product to a neutralization treatment to obtain the nepodin-containing Rumex plant extract.

The object is achieved by a method of manufacturing a composition containing nobiletin and tangeretin, comprising (1-1) a step of treating citrus fruit with hot water to obtain a hot water-treated product; (1-2) a step of drying the hot water-treated product to obtain a dried product; (1-3) a step of treating the dried product with a solvent capable of dissolving nobiletin and tangeretin to obtain a nobiletin and tangeretin solution; (3) a step of concentrating and/or drying the nobiletin and tangeretin solution to obtain a nobiletin and tangeretin concentrate; and (4) a step of treating the nobiletin and tangeretin concentrate with a dilute alkali to obtain a composition containing nobiletin and tangeretin as an insoluble component, and by a composition containing nobiletin and tangeretin at high concentrations manufactured by the method.
